"James! Come on! He's getting away!" Lily shrieked gleefully. James looked up from the bag of sweets he was "holding" for Harry.
"People just, give away sweets? This is bloody brilliant! Lily! Muggles are genius!"
"I know, now come on! Curse the day Sirius gave him that ruddy broomstick!" They chased after their one year-old son down the black and orange decorated streets. "Harry, my love, wait for mummy please!" The boy turned to look at his mother and smiled his partially toothless smile. He pointed at a particularly lit-up house and bounced excitedly.
"Wow." James whispered, coming up behind Lily, snaking his arms around her.
"I know, I know. 'Muggles and their electricity'" Lily giggled.
"No," James replied, wonderstruck. "Look at him Lily. We did that. We made something so beautiful and so amazing. Just take a moment to enjoy it. Breathe it in." He took a deep breath. Lily turned in his arms and gave him a watery smile.
"James, I think i'm in love with you." He laughed.
"Oh, you think?" He kissed her and said, "Harry's getting impatient. What is you say to make them give you treats again?" She laughed
"Trick-or-Treat. You say Trick-or-Treat."
"Thanks love!"
"And remember to give Harry the bag, James!" She waited by the curb, watching Harry and James with a smile on her face. Could her life get more perfect? A muggle lady waddled up beside her and watched her daughter run up the front steps excitedly.
"Oh, that boy is adorable! what's his name?"
"Harry." Lily smiled at the woman. "What's your little princess' name?"
"Jenny. You be careful, now. They grow up so fast…" At that moment Jenny, James, and Harry all came back to the curb.
"C'mon! At this rate we could hit 5 more houses before bedtime!" Lily smiled and looked at her son. His eyes were half-closed and his eyes were grey. But he still smiled.
"Sorry, about that, James but I don't think that's going to happen." At this James leaned down, and picked up the tired child.
"Alright, little buddy. Let's head home." He kissed the little boy's forehead and held Harry in one arm and Lily's hand in the other. Once they got to an empty street, they apparated home.
Once inside, Lily took the bag from Harry and poured the sweets into a bowl on the counter. Suddenly, the lock on the door glowed and clicked.
"James?" Lily whimpered. This couldn't be happening! They were so careful! No one but Sirius, Peter, and Marley knew where they were. The door started to open. "James!" Lily called out. He ran up beside her.
"I love you." He whispered. "I will always be here for you." He kissed her. "Lily, take Harry and go! It's him! Go! Run! I'll hold him off!" She grabbed Harry and ran. In the doorway she paused and looked back.
"James!" He turned. "I love you too!" He nodded, and turned back towards the door, tears running down his face. Lily turned and ran towards the door of Harry's nursery, and put him down in his cot. "Harry, Mummy loves you. She loves you so much." The door to the nursery started pounding. James! She thought and it opened. "No!" she cried, and flung herself between Voldemort and the baby. The room glowed with green light, and all was silent but the boy's cries. The dark wizard raised his wand, "Avada Kedavra!" He yelled. The curse bounced off of the baby, and arced towards Voldemort "Noooo!" He yelled, and the house exploded, and all that remained; was The Boy Who Lived.
