"YOU'RE SENDING THE BOY WHERE?"
"Calm yourself Minerva. I was merely suggesting the boy would be better off…"
"No! I will not allow it! James and Lily's boy. Living with those…. No!"
It was October 31st, and an hour ago Albus Dumbledore had just received word of the Potter's death. It was a shame, the Potter's were taken too young. Their boy however, had survived. Not only that, he had also managed to do something even Dumbledore couldn't do. Voldemort, the dark lord had been defeated. Albus was no fool, he knew one day he would return, stronger and after Harry more than anything. That was why it was imperative that Harry Potter was sent somewhere safe. Where the blood wards would protect him.
"It is a grave decision, but there is no other option."
"No other…" Minerva on the other hand, was having none of it. "There are plenty of options! Sirius Black! While he is a trouble making clown he loves that boy as if it was his blood!"
"Minerva," Dumbledore sighed. "Sirius was James and Lilly's secret keeper, it is very likely he betrayed the Potters." The older woman shook her head.
"They were like brothers. Sirius would never do such a thing. What about Remus? He would make a brilliant guardian for Harry." She argued determinedly.
"He is a werewolf. The ministry would have a field day if the boy who lived was placed with Remus."
"The Longbottom's. They have a son Harry's age…"
"And they are also in hiding, they found the Potters, they will also find the Longbottoms." Albus said gravely.
Minerva was not deterred. "There are many wizarding families who will gladly take him. The Diggory's, the Weasley's have too many children but not one of them is unloved! I've remember Lily talking about her sister, she hates magic, she will never accept the boy!"
Albus sighed. "Any other family who takes him will spoil him, treat him like a hero. He needs to live away from that, until he is ready."
Minerva stood up tall. "You want someone who won't spoil him and turn him into a pampered prince? Give him to me, I'll raise him."
Albus' mouth fell open. "I… Excuse me?"
"I will not stand for Harry Potter, to be raised in a household that would not accept him and treat him like he doesn't matter! Albus, there is a difference between pampering the boy and destroying his self-worth. You might be willing to abandon Harry but I am not. I'm taking the boy and that is final."
Albus shook his head "Minerva…"
"Don't Minerva me! I will find a house in Hogsmeade and raise him. He will know our customs and be happy and not pampered."
Before the wizard could argue anymore, she had left the room. Albus sighed and sat down, rubbing is face with his hand. He didn't want this, but it seemed as if he didn't have a choice.
Minerva entered the small house she had found on the outskirts of Hogsmeade, her fireplace was hooked up to the floo network so she could go to Hogwarts to teach, and even though Albus still protested. Remus looked after Harry every moment she was at Hogwarts. She smiled at the young Harry sleeping in his cot. She brushed the hair away from his face and frowned slightly at the scar etched on his forehead. This may have not been the plan when she first heard of the Potter's demise, but she didn't regret it.
After all. This is what James and Lily would have wanted.
