So I got bored and wrote a bit of a Psycho-Pass one-shot. I'm almost finished with season 1 and since Kogami doesn't have a backstory yet I wrote him up one, along with some pieces of it that I saw in the anime. Enjoy :)
Kogami had a lively childhood and a great career. He never thought that this of all things could happen to him. Of all the things that could have happened on the job he never thought this could happen.
He tried to keep himself level-headed, it never took him great effort, but this time was different. Someone he loved and cared about had gotten hurt. It wasn't something easily forgotten nor brushed off.
And that was enough to make the dominator to slowly turn on him, enough to make him hit the point of no return so quickly.
And now Kogami was sitting in a mental hospital, the same one he used to interrogate the criminally insane in. Now he was here, his own patient, his own mind deemed criminally overboard. While the padded walls and the patients uniform was meant to be a comfort, it held no relief for Kogami. Nothing but sorrow and anger for himself and his lost friend.
'This is all Sasayama's fault" he reasoned. 'If the man hadn't gotten himself killed then I wouldn't be in the looney bin and we'd all be happily enjoying cups of coffee on our break.' Kogami sighed, putting his head in his hands and digging his fingers into his hair. He knew it wasn't Sasayama's fault that he was killed - but his mind couldn't rationalize everything that happened any other way.
After finding Sasayama's mutilated body, Kogami had given all of his time and effort into finding the killer - ultimately ending up fruitless in the investigation. Meanwhile, his crime coefficient sharply rose, and he was demoted from being an inspector to an enforcer. From there on forth, Kogami had became a criminal, someone capable of unspeakable things.
The idea disgusted Kogami, a blatant criminal? Kogami sighed. It was all over for him - his career, his reputation, his chance of ever having a family. Things like this hadn't before he landed in here. And now, Kogami realized he cherished living a normal life more than he had realized. All he wanted to was to get ahead in career field, be a reputable person, and when the time came, a wife and kids to call his own. Things he never had growing up.
His mother had been a single mom, one left with to raise to Kogami alone after his father had left. Why had his father left? His mother never said. All Kogami knew was that the marriage hadn't ended happily. His mother had never gotten high marks in school therefore having to work odd cleaning jobs that paid a miniscule amount.
All in all, Kogami never had a bad life. He had just always wanted more for himself then his mother had. So he always studied hard in school and gave everything the best effort that he possibly could have. Never letting himself down, Kogami became everything that his mother and unknown father were not.
'I've worked so hard...and now this…' Kogami thought muttered what his mouth could not.
'It's all over for me.'
And with that Kogami shed a single tear. The one thing that he had never allowed himself to do.
"Kogami."
Ginoza's sharp pronunciation of Kogami's name rang through the tiny room, causing Kogami to look up.
Slowly making his way to the heavy door with the little barred windows, Kogami stared Ginoza down. Slowly, the door swung open and creaked, echoing through the hallway.
Making his way out, Kogami came to stand before his former co-worker.
"What's going to happen?"
Ginoza smiled, throwing a dominator into Kogami's hand.
"We still have an investigation you know."
