Even the strongest of people break at some point, and sometimes the pieces are hard to put back together alone.
Fullmetal was strong, Mustang knew that. But Ed was still just a teenage girl who had see to much in her short life. So when she would show up at his door step in the middle of the night, tears in her eyes and running down her face, like she had several times since becoming a state alchemist, he wouldn't complain. He'd let her in, listen to her talk if that's what she needed, or give her a hug and hold her through the pain. When she would calm down he would offer to sleep on the couch so she could have the bed if it was to dark, or would offer to walk her home.
He hated that all he could do was offer a shoulder to cry on, that there was no way to stop her nightmares and troubles entirely. He hated seeing that pretty face smeared with tears and fear and pain, hated it when those fiery golden eyes took on the worn look of an old solder. He would do anything in his powers to ease her troubles.
But all he had to offer was a shoulder to cry on and an ear to listen. The rest was up to her, she was strong enough to make it through anything. And what she couldn't make it through, when her strong will finally broke again, he'd be there to help put the pieces back together as many times as she needed him to. He was there, so she wouldn't be alone. He was there, and she knew it. He knew she knew it, and she was still strong because of it, so he also knew his shoulder to cry on and ear to listen was enough for. It had to be enough, because it was enough for him. Because without her, then he would be without a shoulder to cry on and an ear to listen.
And then he would be the one to break, without a soul to help put the pieces back where they belong. Because he was strong to, and could break just as easy as she could. He knew they were both strong, and the strongest of people sometimes break, so they find other strong people. Other people who are willing to share their pieces and put each other together again.
Hey guys. Just a little one-shot I wrote when I finally got a free minute. My schedule is so busy lately, so sorry for not putting anything up lately. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed and I would love to hear back from you in a review!
