Phineas met Ursula Flint when he was a first year. She quickly became the top Slytherin female in their year and had a horde of followers. At the same time, he became the top Slytherin male. It made sense that they would get together.
Phineas wasn't in love with Ursula, but he cared about her. When their parents announced his upcoming wedding to her, he wasn't disappointed.
She was a very attractive girl, and he knew he could make love to her easily. When she gave him his first child, a son that he named after his deceased brother, Phineas decided he couldn't love her anymore than he did when he looked down at her glowing face, a face that was flushed with pride as her baby boy slept peacefully in her arms.
After many years, he finally fell in love with his wife.
