... ... ...

"Crap!" Rory murmured as she and Lorelai indulged in some late night TV and pizza.

"What?" Lorelai said, turning to look at her teenage daughter.

"I lost the Game."

Lorelai looked at Rory with confusion written all over her face.

"The Game?"

Rory nodded, "I learned it from Lane who learned it from Zach who learned it from Brian who learned it from his cousin in Wisconsin or something."

"How do you play this Game?" Lorelai asked, turning off the TV and taking another bite of pizza.

Rory switched the TV back on and muttered, "It's nothing. Kinda stupid actually, you wouldn't get it."

"Uh, Rory, that's not fair!" Lorelai exclaimed, turning off the TV, "You brought up this Game, and you know I love games, and isn't so much more fun when we play games together?"

"No, never mind," Rory said, "I shouldn't have even brought it up."

"Ror-eeeee!" Lorelai screeched, grabbing Rory by the shoulders to rock her gently back and forth all the while chanting her daughter's name softly.

"Tell me, tell me, tell me, tell me!" Lorelai cried.

"Okay, okay, fine I'll tell you!" Rory shouted, "God you're worse than a little kid in a candy shop."

"Ooh, there's candy involved?" Lorelai joked.

"Anyway," Rory said, exasperated, "When you think about the Game you lose the game. When you lose the Game you have to say, 'Oh I lost the Game.' Then everyone hears you and everyone loses the Game."

"So," Lorelai said, looking up at the ceiling, "No one wins the Game?"

Rory smiled, "Yeah, you do get it. It's impossible to win the Game."

"Do you think I could annoy Luke by going to the diner and screaming 'I lost the Game'?" Lorelai whispered, a wicked smile on her face.

"There's one other rule though," Rory said, "You can only lose every hour. You can't just say 'I lost the Game, I lost the Game, I lost the Game' every ten seconds."

"I think I understand this game," Lorelai said, nodding as she turned on the TV.

Rory chuckled, "You should have seen the look on Mrs. Kim's face when we tried to explain it to her."

"Oh," Lorelai said, hugging Rory, "I can imagine."

... ... ...
