Nobody seemed to understand her, not at all. They just thought about it like she was only pretending or that she had mental issues, but she was actually able to do it. She was able to hear pokémon talk - like peeking into their hearts and reading their feelings.
She was hanging out at her usual, favorite place: the river in Neolight City, a conventional city in Arkadias, a region far from all the others, known only by not so many. She was looking at the reflection of herself into the vividness of the water, caused by the stunning brightness of the sun.
The day had just began; in the meanwhile, Sarah - that was the name of the girl - kept talking with the Sableye next to her. They were both sitting to a small hill, facing the river, on that sunny day.
"Noir, I told you" she said, with a slightly annoyed look on her face. "It's gonna be fine!"
"Just be careful. You don't know what dangers this pitiful world could have prepared for you" he said. She could understand every word coming from Sableye, while to others that could have just been interpreted as a simple "Sabley, sabley!".
"You're too overly dramatic. It's just a new school, and besides, I could use having some friends. Just once... please?" she asked, hoping to get a good answer from the gem pokémon. She blinked her eyes in an attempt to make a puppy face in order to convince him.
"Ugh. Ok, I guess. But your security comes before everything else, Sarah."
Noir was a species of Sableye very different in personality than the others; Sarah found him sobbing, for the loss of his master. He sighed in relief when he noticed she could understand him, and decided to become hers. While other Sableyes are mainly pranksters or simply bad influence for other pokémon/even trainers, Noir was wise, loyal and... yes, overly dramatic. But he still was a gem scavenger and lover, just like every other Sableye.
"Sure, sur-" she couldn't finish the sentence she just started, because of another voice interfering through - looking behind her, behind the small hill she was sitting on, a boy that would of have changed her life.
"Hey. Sorry, but who are you talking to?" the boy simply said.
