A/N: Hey guys. I was on a car trip when this idea struck me. I'm just going to see how this turns out. Enjoy! I don't own any of the characters used in this story.

Alfred looked out the car window, "Carry on my Wayward Son" blaring from the speakers of the car. It was the third day on his road trip across America. He looked at the sign on the side of the road, he appeared to be on some back road in Kentucky. Alfred sighed, California couldn't come soon enough. And as he turned back to the main road his mind began to think, Why was he going to California again? because to be honest, he couldn't remember anymore. Alfred shook his head, there must be a reason, he just had to go to California, that was all he knew and that was all he needed.

Alfred turned off onto another road and his heart dropped, this didn't seem like much of a shortcut anymore. As Alfred tried to determine when he took a wrong turn something caught his eye. Up the road a man was standing with his thumb jutting out. He had blonde hair, and was wearing a green t-shirt and jeans with a travel backpack next to him.
A hitchhiker, Alfred thought and he drove up the road to get a better look at the man. Right when Alfred pulled up the man tapped on the window and motioned for Alfred to roll down his window. Alfred thought,
You don't know this man, he could have a knife or gun or- but he was already rolling down the window.

The man leaned in slightly before speaking,
"Can you give me a ride?" the man asked.
His eyes are almost the same color green of his shirt…Alfred thought before snapping out of it.
"Oh um….where are you headed?" he asked before immediately regretting it. Why was he asking? It's not like he was actually considering giving the guy a ride!...was he?
The man replied, "Anywhere but here."
Alfred debated in his mind, Should I? No, you know not to pick up hitch-hikers!
But he looks really nice, plus he's small, we can take him if we need to. Another part of his mind answered.
But who knows? Maybe he's on the run, and the cops are looking for him! the other side shot back.
This guy? His eyebrows look like caterpillars! He's no criminal! Alfred was still debating when the guy start speaking again.
"Please, I just want to get out of here." The man looked down at the ground, his whole body portraying how exhausted he was.
That's when Alfred broke, "Of course." he answered and un-locked the car door.

The man smiled and climbed in putting his backpack on the car's floor, "Oh thank you!" Alfred gave a small smile back.
Why did I let him into my car?!he thought.
"By the way," the man started, "my name is Arthur." Arthur's smile faded, "And I don't do any of that, "indecent" stuff. So don't go asking for favors because you're driving me around. Remember I have no ties and nothing to lose, so don't go trying anything or I will be forced to "defend" myself."
Arthur smiled again and Alfred chuckled nervously.
Crap what did I get into? he thought.
"So, what's our destination?" Arthur asked.
"California," Alfred replied and Arthur looked at him with confused eyes.
"You do know that California is the other way right?"
Alfred let that sink in for a moment before turning the car around and taking off in the other direction.
"I knew that!"
