Here's a lil' something I wrote quite some time ago. I always like Rolo and thought it was so sad how he died. It's a wonder why I haven't done any fanfics for Code Geass.... I loved the series completely.

A tool no more

Rolo's death was a sacrifice... to save Lelouch, his brother's life. He only cared for him and his wretched life. One that decieved so many and killed others, bathing in their blood with his lies. Rolo knew that he was being used by Lelouch as nothing more than a tool, but he didn't care. He had someone to love with all of his heart. He once though that he could live alone as the assassin he was without feeling a thing. However, that way of life had him suffering day in and day out. When at last he recieved kindness, he was finally out of the darkness. And he was saved.

Then he only wanted to return the favor. To protect his dear adopted big brother was his one greatest desire. Because his meaning of living lied with him and only him. After all, it was he who gave him a heart, his happiness. Rolo's existence belonged to Lelouch. "Brother." He would say again and again. When he was sad and lonely, his brother would be so close to him all the time to ease those feelings away. His gaze would be his comfort. Rolo's place was at his side. He'd fight for him, throwing away his life to protect the other's. Even if his said 'precious person' would harm him, he would overcome it. That is just how devoted he was. A brotherly love completely one-sided.

Lelouch, his and his alone, betrayed all who believed in him. Then he gave up on living, thus complicating things for Rolo. He went and protected him- the traitor. His only concern were for his safety. Though in the midist of battle, he compliments dear old brother's power even now. Despite the fact that so many were trying to kill the one he loved, he wasn't going to allow him to die, even if it meant the end for him. His heart was failing and to continue this desperate rescue would be suicide. But he kept going anyways. Lelouch's protests didn't faze him in the least. He had to do this no matter what the outcome.

He'd always been someone's tool. Then he became Lelouch's tool. Why was he saving someone like him? Someone so underserving and manipulative? It was because of his undying love towards him. He may have been just a tool in the end, but the times he had spent with him was genuine. Thanks to those wonderful memories he became human. He was alive! He had felt like a living person and not a monster to kill. As he choked and gasped for air, Lelouch watched in disbelief. The boy was becoming paler and paler as his heart broke in pieces. Now he is not a tool. This is of his own will. His own need is what is being taken care of. He is in control. No orders. No comands. No mission. This is his! He died thinking his brother truly did care for him, but what a terrible lie that was. Though, maybe, just maybe deep down Lelouch might have loved him. Why else give him the words he wished to hear than the cold hard truth?

"Rolo, why did you save me? I used you."

"Brother... you're a liar... You did,... right? Saying stuff like wanting to kill me.... that you hated me...."

"I see. You saw through my lies. You are indeed my brother."

"That's .... right.... I know ..... everything.... about you..... Brother...."

"Yeah, that's right. Your brother is a liar."
