This is the sweetest fic I've written so far. Some real 'family' bonding!

"Toph what are you up to?" Aang couldn't help but ask.

It had almost been dinnertime when Toph ran into camp and ordered the Gang to follow her as she ran back towards the river. Aang thought they were being attacked but as the group approached the river, he realised that nobody was there.

Toph didn't seem to be tense. However, she was displaying some rather strange body language.

Aang looked to his left. Sokka was standing there clutching his empty stomach, "Toph…" he whined, "I'm hungry, just hurry up already!"

Toph simply ignored Sokka's request. She had lined them up in front of the river. Katara was on his right and Sokka was on his left. In between them and the river Toph was pacing, and had been for the past five minutes.

She stopped abruptly and turned to Katara, "Will you help me make some mud Katara?"

Katara roused, "Uhh sure… But what is this for?"

"I'll show you." At that Toph took an earth bending stance as Katara sighed and took a water bending one.

Together they mixed the two elements together, resulting in an unappealing mass of mud. Then Toph made something that looked like a trough and filled it with the newly created mud.

Aang frowned, what is she doing?

"OK!" Toph shouted cheerfully and clapped her hands together, "Who's first!"

Sokka made the mistake of speaking, "What are you talking about?! What are we supposed to do with mud?!"

Toph showed them then and there what she expected them to do with mud. Without a word she moved around the trough to Sokka and gave his confused face a wide grin before grabbing the back of his head a slamming it into the fresh brown mud.

Katara gasped and reeled back. Aang's jaw dropped. Sokka?... Well Sokka was now on the ground gasping for air and trying to wipe the mud from his face, making many sounds of disgust.

Toph bent down and grabbed his muddy face with her two small hands. He silenced immediately and looked with shock into the misty green eyes, which were very close to his own. "Toph?..."

She hushed him and smiled as she said, "I see you…" in a singsong voice.

That was what she was doing! Aang smiled. The mud let her use earth bending to see the finer details of Sokka's face!

Toph was definitely smart. He'd never have thought of that.

Aang laughed. Katara cocked an eyebrow at him. Without thought Aang leapt at the trough and submerged his entire head into it.

Mud went everywhere. A large portion of it slopped over Katara.

Toph was overjoyed. Aang couldn't have been happier. Even Katara who was covered in mud couldn't stop smiling.

All four of them sat in the mud. Dinner forgotten as Toph laid her hands on each of their faces and saw her friends for the first time.

I got the idea and had to write it down. There are loads of fics where all she has to do is poke faces to get vibrations and see people. But she only sees through earth bending. So covering their faces in mud seemed like the logical way to go!

Hope you liked it!
