Angela's POV

The sounds of the end of the school day were evident as I walked over to my old Toyota. I was planning what to make Isaac and Joshua for dinner tonight. My parents were going out for the night – a rare occasion in my house. They were usually too busy with work and handling the twins to have alone time, but I had offered to take care of them tonight. There was plenty of pasta, so I could make their favorite homemade macaroni and cheese.

I was pulled out of my musings by the sound of my name being called. My heart skipped a beat when I realized the voice belonged to Ben Cheney, my long-time crush.

"Oh. Hi, Ben," I greeted as he caught up with me and matched my pace.

"Hey." He looked really nervous for some reason. Usually when he was worried, he would rub and twist at his wrist with his other hand. And right now he was in danger of cutting off the circulation to his right hand.

"Is something wrong?" He wouldn't look at me, so I grabbed him by the arm and dragged him the rest of the way to my car. I put my hands on his shoulders to try to reassure him.

Again, I asked if everything was all right, but I never got an answer because he countered my question with his own.

"Will you go to prom with me?" He blurted it out so quickly that I barely understood what he said. My arms dropped in shock. It took me a minute or two to process what he was asking. I always dreamed of this happening, but never thought that he would actually want me to be his date. I realized that I had taken too long to answer and that he had assumed the worst.

"That's okay. I don't know why I even thought that you would go with me. I mean I'm nothing special, just a short little nerd that's wasting your time. See you later." He was about to walk away, when I finally found my voice.

"Wait! Ben, I would love to go to prom with you." He turned around with a hopeful look in his eyes.

"Really? Your not just saying that to make me feel better, are you?"

"No. I am not. I have liked you for a really long time," I said with a blush. The biggest smile I have ever seen appeared on him face at my words.

"I really like you too." I felt my grin stretch from ear to ear. As we smiled at each other, I realized that just about everyone had left the parking lot. My Cheshire cat grin disappeared.

"I really wish I don't have to ruin the moment, but I do. I have to go pick up the twins from school and start dinner." My frown deepened when I realized that it was the weekend and that I wouldn't see Ben again until Monday.

As if reading my thoughts, Ben said, "How about I call you tomorrow. We can watch a movie or hangout."

"I would love that," I said simply.

After goodbyes, we parted our separate ways. As I drove to the elementary school, my thoughts were consumed with daydreams centered on my possible future with Ben.
