Little Sammy Winchester sat in the middle of the massive pile of gold, auburn and papery thin leaves, with a smile upon his face. He was five, his brother nine.
And his brother was no where in sight.
'Dean?' Sam called, eyes widening into dark, sparkly eyes. He stared around- but all he could see were trees.
Where was his brother-?
'Boo!'
Sam yelled in surprise as a shape came flying out of the mass of leaves by his feet- his brother Dean. He was laughing at little Sammy's surprise.
The pair heard quiet laughing from their father, as he lent against his beloved Impala with a map in his hand. He looked over at his boys- who were now having a leaf fight, the leaves scattering and flying everywhere, catching the setting sun and making them shine brilliantly.
The boy's laughter rose above all the commotion. John Winchester sighed and put the map down, turning his gaze back to his sons- who were now lying flat on their backs in exhaustion.
He shook his head, laughing quietly again; it was good to see little Sammy and Dean have fun once in a while. They never really got chance with the endless travelling.
Sammy stood up and ran over to John, calling. 'Dean's pulling my hair!'
John sighed- kids.
'Dean! Quit pulling your brothers hair!' he called at Dean with yet another sigh.
But he was also partly grinning- their sibling rivalry antics made him laugh at times.
Dean stood up and folded his arms sulkily. 'Sammy tried to put leaves down my shirt though!'
The sigh returned. 'Both of you quit it then!' he said, starting to get a fraction annoyed.
The pair scowled at him, but then Dean grinned as he turned to Sammy. 'I think Dad needs a shower.'
Sammy frowned in confusion, and then understood. He laughed as he picked up a pile of leaves, as did Dean. John laughed, backing away. Dean grinned cheekily at him.
'Surrender!' he called, Sam was laughing, making a few leaves fall from his hands in the process.
John grinned. 'Never!' he called back. Dean's grin widened. 'Attack!' he yelled, half laughing, running forwards and chucking them all over his father. John laughed, trying to fight both his sons' half-hearted attempt to shower him in leaves.
'Ok! I give in!' John yelled after another minuet of leaf pelting. He pretended to collapse onto the leaf pile, making them poof up into the air. He closed his eyes, but left one slyly open.
Sam giggled and poked his arm. 'Dad?' he asked with a small grin. Dean picked up another massive pile of leaves and put them on Johns face.
'There! That's better.' He said with a grin much like his brothers.
John opened his eyes, and pounced- he grabbed the pair and pulled them into the leaves, making them call out in surprise at the sudden "attack"
The leaf fight began again.
The sun started to set over the father-son moment, the light refracting of the auburn leaves, making them shine like spun gold.
But it was just another autumn evening.
