Starting Over

It should have been easier for her;

In his last moments, rushed memories captivated his brain

Her face in each and every one of them.

Side by side, the two were the silent warriors

Backbone to the great school, guardians of the innocent

Protectors against the corrupted, champion of the underdog.

Now, a great chasm had been created

His soul cornered by the demons of the abyss

And she was left behind with nothing more

Than the memory of a stolen kiss

A gentle touch marked with the beginning of the end

And the cawing of the raven into the great still night.

Staring at the bodies strewn across her home

She wondered once more, questioning her strength

And prayed for the strength

To start over once again

But this time, without him.
