Sun and Rain
Like the sun and rain, SpongeBob and Squidward couldn't be more different. Sponge-x-Squid poem, very fluffy. Fluff-freaks will enjoy; angst-lovers may not.
Like "Bad Dream Believer" and "Feint" before it, this is on DeviantArt as well. What can I say? I just love being productive for once. And this seemed like as good a time as any, what with the rise of Spandy. :P
Disclaimer: I don't own--
"SpongeBob, can I get a glass of water?"
Like the sun and rain,
SpongeBob
and Squidward
couldn't be more different.
SpongeBob the sun.
Optimistic,
full of energy,
determined to do what's right.
Happiness is flaunted,
presented to the world in diamond packages.
Sadness is hidden,
in the depths of the core of their soul.
Anger is intense,
but very rare, like snow in June.
And, of course,
they're both yellow.
Squidward the rain,
and almost the opposite.
Cynical,
mostly unenthusiastic,
but sure about their actions.
Gloom is spread;
a damp soggy influence arrives with their presence.
Fury is instantaneous;
when it hits, boy does it hit.
Pleasure is almost impossible.
But not a thing unheard of.
And, obviously,
they're both blue.
(Well, OK, Squidward is aqua,
and rain is translucent,
but you know what I mean.)
But surely the sun and the rain,
the poriferan and the cephalopod,
the two seemingly mortal enemies
from across time and space
(all right, maybe an exaggeration),
must have something in common.
Like the sun and rain,
Squidward and SpongeBob
do everything next to each other.
(Not willingly, of course,
on the rain's part,
but he has to get on with it.)
They work, reside and have their screw-ups
side by side,
the sun taking it in his stride,
the rain just… gloomy.
Speaking of screw-ups,
the sun and rain have a lot of those.
Global warming is causing more
freak storms, heatwaves and tornadoes
by the day.
Squid and Sponge's motive for
their freak misadventures
is life itself.
And, usually, Squid's big mouth.
C'est la vie.
And perhaps most importantly…
The sun and rain
control the weather.
Squidward and SpongeBob
control each other.
Well, OK, not exactly control.
But when Squidward is rarely happy,
SpongeBob is happy too.
That counts.
Some people think that's it.
No more in common.
Nada, zip, bupkiss.
But there is one other crucial
similarity between the sun and rain,
kitchen utensil and calamari.
You see,
Rain and Sun
may look enemies,
but they work in unison;
one could not thrive and exist
without the other.
It may not be exactly the same
for Squidward and SpongeBob.
After all, if one hadn't met the other,
their own lives would only have been affected
slightly.
But they're lovers
behind everybody's backs;
you get credit for trying.
The sun and rain can sense this.
And when they
(they being the secret lovers)
kiss,
deeply,
passionately,
so happy they don't care who sees;
for once the sun and rain
join the mystical forces
that make the rain rain
and sun shine;
and a rainbow darts across the sky,
brightening up the cold cold clouds
with red, blue, green.
Plus a bit of purple for good measure.
Sun and rain,
sponge and octopus
in perfect harmony.
