Disclaimer: I didn't create the Penderwicks characters.
Author's Note: I imagined this fanfic when I realized that so many changes happen between "The Penderwicks on Gardam Street" and "The Penderwicks at Point Mouette".
Rosalind, Skye, Jane, and Batty Penderwick were visiting their dear friend Jeffery in Boston. Churchie had taken them out to a popular Chinese restaurant. Once they'd all had their fill of the delicious food they sat there and chatted for a while.
"Hey Jeffery, I finished another Sabrina Starr book." Jane shouted at Jeffery from across the table.
"Really? What did she save this time?"
"Never mind what she saved, have you been practicing your soccer drills?" Skye interrupted.
Ever since the girls had arrived Jeffery had been bombarded with questions of all sorts. He was beginning to feel a bit shy with all the attention put on him.
"Here you are, darlings." Churchie smiled and handed each of them a fortune cookie.
"Ooh, fortune cookies! Thank you Churchie!" Rosalind grinned and a solid chorus of thank-yous followed hers.
"I'm going to open mine first!" Called Batty. "Because I'm the youngest."
Skye rolled her eyes, but figured it was best not to argue.
"It says… ah, Rosalind would you read it for me?"
"Of course sweetie. It says 'You will find your musical talent within the next year'."
"HA!" Yelled Skye, "Musical talent, humbug! Like that will ever happen."
"It could too!" Argued Batty.
"Could not!"
"Could too!"
"Could not!"
This went on for a few minutes until Rosalind suggested that Skye read hers aloud to the group.
"Fine, it says 'You will be taking an unexpected trip in the next year'. Wow, I don't believe these things anyways." Skye stated and threw her slip of paper on the table.
"Jane, you go next."
"Ok, here it goes. Mine says ' You will find love when you least expect it'." Jane sighed dreamily.
"Rosalind, why don't you go next?" Jeffery told her, being the polite boy he is.
"If you say so Jeffery. It says 'You will discover more about yourself.' I wonder what that's supposed to mean?" Rosalind laughed.
"I guess that leaves me then. My fortune says 'You will find a lost relative sooner than you expect.'" Jeffery's cheeks blushed. "I wonder who it will be?"
For the rest of the day the friends sat thinking, wondering if their fortunes would come true. Maybe they would, and maybe they wouldn't. They would soon find out.
