BECAUSE HE NEEDS A HUG

Barik was wandering around the Aqua tower with no real purpose; however, if he did see Rivan along the way, Barik was supposed to tell him to get his butt in gear and do some work. Like Rivan would listen.

This of course, was only one of several reasons why Barik was in a bad mood today. He had just gotten out of the Dark Liege's office where she had yelled at him (or at least, in his general direction; Barik wasn't sure if she was mad at him or not) about how Nora was being irresponsible again. Then, he was told by Kain that there was a new load of paperwork in Rivan's office that Rivan should attend to. Of course, it would be Barik who would have to do it in the end, Rivan being so lazy.

And, on top of everything else, last friday had been friday the 13th, and people were still talking about what had happened to him. He didn't really want to think about his bad luck that day, but it involved a paint can, an angry cat, catnip, a fishing rod, and no fewer than twelve mirrors.

Barik debated whether or not he could skip work today like Rivan obviously had. Maybe he could go check on one of the branches of the headquarters that was about two kilometres away... and he could walk there, seeing as it was such a nice day. Yes, that was a great idea.

So Barik left the tower and went into the city. It was always odd to see what weird trends had popped up. This month there seemed to be a trend towards hats... really odd hats. It seemed that the weirder a hat was, the cooler the wearer was.

Barik grumbled. He was having a bad day, and now he had to weave his way around these weirdos who had hats the stuck out several inches past their bodies.

Then, just a foot in front of him was some girl who was wearing a broad hat with some feathers and flowers in it. She had stopped right in his path and was looking up at him with big, green eyes. Her hair was blonde, Barik could see now, and she wasn't actually as short as he thought she was at first.

"Umm, could you please move?" Barik asked politely after an awkward moment.

Suddenly the girl lunged forward and hugged him.

"Wha-?" Barik said, baffled.

She began to talk very fast. "Oh my gosh it's you Barik this is so cool well please don't be sad it makes me sad when you're sad and you're way too awesome to be sad all the time you totally deserve this hug okay bye now i hope i cheered you up i love you so much okay bye!"

And with that extremely long run-on sentence, the girl disappeared again into the crowds. Barik started walking again, but what baffled. What had just happened? Who was that random girl? Come to think of it... she seemed human! What was up with that?

Odd as it was, Barik felt slightly... happier, as he continued to walk down the street.

Meanwhile, a ways down the street, a girl in a flowery, feathery hat met up with another girl wearing a red had with rainbow curls attached to it. "Oh my gosh, did you actually do it?"

"Yep," the girl in the flowery hat said.

"But... why?" the girl with the rainbow-y hat asked confused.

"Because he needed a hug!"
