Some would ask why she didn't leave. She'd always tell them that she couldn't. Some would say she can, but she'd tell them all the same answer. She won't. He's not a monster. He's human like the rest. Until he wasn't.
She was nine when her father, Jake, started to drink his depression away with every sip of alcohol he could get his hands on. She didn't see it. She should've. When she was with him, his smile would be the biggest. His laughter would be so loud. His whole energy screamed happy, but then maybe that's how depression looked. They don't want you to know that they're screaming or that they're in so much pain. They don't want to burden you with what's going on in their head. They don't believe they deserve you. She used to believe it was her fault when he finally decided to leave the world. She was just sixteen.
Abby Griffin seemed oblivious, but Clarke knew she didn't care about her father the way she once did. Her mother threw herself into work and often took shifts that would keep her overnight. She'd rather spend her time at the hospital than to spend time with Clarke or her husband. She was never around to see that they were losing her father. Around or not, neither knew and it ate Clarke alive.
A few months after his death, Finn came into her life. He took her mind off of the pain. Took her mind away from the grieving she never allowed herself to do. Clarke thought he could be the one to take the pain away, but she couldn't be more wrong. Finn wasn't Finn in the end.
