Okay, I just have to get this out of my head. I've recently gotten into One Piece and, of course, my imagination gave me another story to write. I'm also contemplating AU stories for this series, but I haven't made up my mind yet.
But anyway, just as a warning, updates for this story might be a bit slow due to me trying to complete other stories and classes that are to start next week. So, until I can get a handle on my schedule and my other stories, please enjoy this first chapter.
Disclaimer: I do not own One Piece.
Chapter 1
"Cool! Hey guys, check out this town!" Luffy yelled excitedly at his crew.
It had been two days since they had left Usopp's hometown and two things had occurred that made them take a little detour from their journey to the Grand Line. One would be the cyclone that had forced them off course and thus pushing them towards the small island they were now on. The second being that Luffy had already eaten all of the food they had in the short time they were out at sea, which didn't bode well with the rest of his crew.
So, being forced to already make port so soon in their journey, they stopped at a small island that they wouldn't have seen in the first place if it wasn't for the storm.
While Luffy was looking around excitedly at the only town on the island, Nami was telling Zoro and Usopp all they needed to get while they were there, which was mainly food.
When she looked over her shoulder to give Luffy something to do, she saw the tell-tale straw hat gone along with their captain. She sighed. She should have expected as much from Luffy. She just hoped that he wouldn't get into any trouble or cause them all to be run out of town again.
Meanwhile, Luffy was just running down the street, looking for something exciting to do or see. Just then, he saw a group of kids gathering at the far end of town carrying nets. As he ventured closer to them, he overheard one of them talking about catching beetles. At this, he smiled and rushed over to join them.
…..
A few hours later, Luffy started running back to the ship to show everyone the beetle he found. However, just as he reached the center of town, he found himself distracted by the sound of someone yelling.
"You think you can take me on like that? I'll show you that there's no messing with the Storm Pirates, you wimpy little shit!" Luffy stared as one of the boys from earlier was standing defiantly in front of a man twice his size with messy, unkempt hair.
However, what really caught his attention was the knife the man suddenly pulled out. Everyone present was only staring in shock as he lunged forward with the intent to stab the boy. Luffy was about to run forward to help the boy when someone suddenly came up from behind the boy.
Eric could only watch as the knife came at him. His mind was screaming at him to run, but his legs wouldn't obey. He thought that this was the end until someone suddenly stepped in front of him and crouched forward.
The pirate didn't know what hit him. All he knew was that one second he was charging the boy who was pissing him off and the next something was punching him in the stomach and the impact caused him to fly back a few feet.
Everyone was silent as the pirate landed flat on his back. Then, after a moment, they started cheering the person who made him fly.
"Way to go, Terra!"
"Thank God you came when you did!"
The young woman turned around to smile at Eric.
"You better get out of here before things get really violent." He could only nod and run away, knowing he would only stand in her way when she was trying to protect him.
Luffy looked at the person before him. She was a young woman with short, thick wavy black hair that didn't go far past the nape of her neck. She wore a short-sleeved dark blue shirt with black pants and shoes. She also wore tight, black leather gloves. Her violet eyes, after she sent the boy away, went back to watch the pirate as he slowly got up. However, the one thing that really got Luffy's attention was the camera that hung around her neck. Now, instead of focusing on the fight that was brewing between her and the pirate, he was contemplating how to get the camera.
At the same time this was happening, Nami and the others had joined the gathering crowd to see what was going on, mainly to make sure that it wasn't Luffy causing the commotion.
Terra watched as the pirate got up with a scowl on his face.
"I don't know who you think you are, but you are messing with the wrong group of pirates. Now that you went and done this, don't think that you'll live to see the sunset!"
She stared at him for a moment before answering.
"So you're saying that you're actually going to be a challenge in a fight? 'Cause that means that this fight won't be as boring as I already perceive it to be."
He snarled as he charged again with his knife. Terra just pulled back her fist and brought her other hand forward. As he lunged forward to stab her, her gloved hand grabbed the knife by the blade and she pulled him forward while bringing her fist to his face.
Upon impact, he lost his grip on his knife and flew back a foot. Terra dropped the knife as soon as he fell to the ground. He looked up again, nose broken and eyes watery. He wasn't going to let this slide. He was going to memorized her face and then bring back-up. Actually, now that he thought about it, this woman looked a lot like…..
Suddenly, the man paled. Then he started scooting back away from the woman.
"No way…"
Terra looked at him in confusion. She only punched him twice, and she gathered that he came with a crew, so she didn't see any reason for the fear on his face. At least right now.
The pirate then got up and took off, sprinting towards the harbor.
Nami frowned at the sudden change in behavior. She turned her attention to the woman only to see that she looked confused as well. And when Nami looked around at the crowd that was still there, the people were only murmuring about the incident. Nobody was actually asking her what the whole thing was about.
So she decided to ask herself out of curiosity.
"Hey!" Terra turned around to see a redhead walking towards her. She never saw her before, so she concluded that the redhead was one of the people who came in today.
"Can I help you?"
"I was wondering why that pirate ran off scared like that. Do you have some big reputation around here or something?" Terra just frowned at her before shrugging.
"I don't know. I'm not even from around here."
"Huh?" Before she could say anything else, the woman turned around and started to walk away.
"I need to go now. Careful around that pirate crew that just got here." With that, she walked away.
"Pirate crew?" Were they not the only ones there? And what was up with her? Before she could give much thought to either question, she was distracted by a flash of light next to her. She turned her head to see Luffy with a camera.
"Luffy! Where did you get that?"
"Hehehe, I got it from – "
"Hey! You stole that from Terra!" Both Nami and Luffy turned their heads to see a little brown-haired girl. She ran up and grabbed the camera by the strap that Luffy left dangling and pulled. Luffy pulled back and thus began the tug-of-war game for the camera.
"Hey Luffy! You causing trouble again?" Nami looked over to see Zoro and Usopp coming over at the sight of Luffy fighting with a little girl.
"It's mine now! Let go!"
"No! You let go! Terra needs this so she won't forget anymore!" At this, Luffy stopped pulling on the camera and stared at the girl in confusion.
"What do you mean? Is she stupid or something?" Nami smacked him upside the head for the comment as the little girl glared at him.
"No! She's not!"
"Then what do you mean?" The girl finally managed to yank the camera out of his hands and made to run off, except Luffy got a grip on the back of her shirt and wouldn't let her leave without answering. When she finally stopped trying to run off, figuring out that he wasn't going to let her go, she looked around. The crowd had thinned out since the fight and no one was paying attention to them. Terra was also gone.
Luffy let go as she turned around.
"Terra can't remember anything from before a year ago. She has amnesia."
Luffy tilted his head to the side.
"Why can't she remember?" Nami smacked him upside the head again.
"You idiot! She just said that she has amnesia."
"But how did she get amnesia?" asked Usopp.
The girl shrugged.
"Nobody knows. All she remembers is waking up drifting out at sea. Nobody here knows who she is and she hasn't remembered anything during the year she stayed here after one of the fishermen who lives here found her."
"Well, hasn't there been anyone who came by who recognized her?" asked Usopp. The girl shook her head.
"No. This island isn't anywhere near any major sea routes. And everyone who came by were all from other parts of East Blue and they didn't recognize her either. As far as we can tell, she's from a different part of the world entirely."
Nami, personally, felt a bit bad for Terra. It was probably hard for someone to not know who they were. However, there was no way they could help her with her memory. Besides, if there was another pirate crew here, she needed to see if she could loot them before they left the island.
"In that case, I've decided!" Nami looked over at Luffy to see a grin on his face.
"We'll take her with us! We're heading for the Grand Line! Maybe we'll see someone who knows her there!" Both girls looked at him in shock.
"Luffy! We can't take her with us! Our ship isn't a passenger ship!" Nami tried to reason with Luffy. Honestly, they were pirates. They couldn't be taking on passengers. And just because she was able to beat one guy didn't mean that she could pull her own weight fighting multiple enemies or help run a ship. But he wasn't going to have any of that.
"Nope! I've already decided that she's our newest crewmate. Now let's go find her!" With that, he took off.
"Oh! I'll give this back to her while I'm at it." The little girl was shocked to find his arm stretching towards her. So shocked that she didn't put up a fight as the hand attached to the arm grabbed the camera and snapped back to Luffy.
"Now where did she go?" Luffy wondered out loud. When he couldn't remember which direction she left in, he decided on another method of looking instead of just running around. He looked up at the building he was standing next to and decided that it would be good enough. Then he shot his arm up to grab the edge of the roof and took a step back.
"Gum Gum…ROCKET!" If the bystanders were shocked to see someone stretch their arm to touch the roof of a house, the looks on their faces was bordering in hysterics when they saw him suddenly shot off into the air.
…
"Are you sure you're not mistaken?"
The pirate with the broken nose nodded.
"I'm sure! She doesn't look like anyone else. And everyone says that she's only been here for the past year, so it adds up!"
Captain Storm thought it over. He couldn't get why she of all people would be staying at an island in the middle of nowhere like this, but if what his first mate said was true, then they could either have a troublesome enemy or a helpful asset. He needed to see things for himself.
"Well, if what you say is true, then I say let's go and send her an invitation. Either to join the crew or to drop dead."
…..
At a one-story house at the edge of town, Terra was laying on the rooftop, just looking at the sky.
She was wondering why that pirate freaked out the way he did. Maybe he recognized her from somewhere…..
Nah. She had been there a year without anyone coming by saying that they knew her. In fact, she hadn't even remembered anything herself. Not even the reason why she couldn't remember anything. And she had long given up hope on actually knowing who she once was.
She closed her eyes and was about to content to just sunbath for a while when the sun was suddenly blocked. She opened her eyes just in time to see a red and yellow blur coming right before it hit her.
"Look out!" A voice shouted, but she didn't have enough time to respond before the blur, a boy apparently, crashed into her and created a hole in her roof.
Luffy got up to see that he crashed into a small house. There was a bed in one corner and a kitchen area off to one side. There wasn't really a whole lot of furniture. He looked down when he heard someone groan. That someone turned out to be the woman he was looking for.
"Oh! There you are! I've been looking for you!" Terra opened her eyes to see not only that her house had been destroyed a bit, but also a kid in a red vest and wearing a straw hat smiling at her. Then what he said clicked in her head. Why was he looking for her?
Then she saw that he had a camera in his hand. A quick look down her front revealed that the camera he had was her camera. When did he get it? And how?
"I came to give this back…..if you join my pirate crew!"
Wait, what? He was in a pirate crew? He couldn't be in the same pirate crew as that other guy, could he? They seemed too different to cooperate with each other. But she supposed that it was possible. There was only one pirate ship at the harbor and she wasn't about to join the crew of someone who was about to kill one of the kids here.
"Hell no. Now hand it over." The boy shook his head and held the camera behind him.
"I won't give it back until you agree. Besides, we're heading for the Grand Line! Chances are we'll bump into someone who knows you and you can get your memory back!" She blinked. How did he know that she had amnesia? Wait, that wasn't important now. Besides, anyone on the island could have told him that. It wasn't really a secret.
She started walking towards the door. If it came to a fight with him, she would rather have more room to fight in.
"Forget it. I won't join a pirate crew, especially one that attempts to kill children."
Luffy frowned.
"What do you mean? We don't do that." They walked out of the house and into the street.
"Yeah right. Your crewmate was pointing a knife at that boy because he was joking around," Terra said with sarcasm. It took Luffy a minute to figure out what she was talking about. And then he remembered the incident from earlier.
"Oh! That guy isn't a part of our crew! You're saying that there's another pirate crew here?"
Now she was frowning at him.
"There's only one pirate ship here! And it has the Jolly Roger of the Storm Pirates apparently. Are you saying you're not a Storm pirate?"
Luffy shook his head.
"No. My crew just got our ship two days ago. We haven't got a flag yet."
She stared at him incredulously. Was he serious? She was about to ask him that same question when…
BANG!
…..and then there was a spray of blood.
Yes, I know. First chapter and I'm already using an evil cliffhanger. What's worse is that I can't say when the next update will be, so you may be left in suspense for a while. As I said earlier, updates may be slow and sporadic due to classes starting and my other stories that I need to write. I also don't have a set amount of time set aside each day to write. I'm not that organized.
However, I do hope that you've enjoyed this first chapter and that you will review telling me what you think. I'm not exactly sure how well this chapter went, so reviews will definitely help point out anything wrong with the chapter as well as motivate me to get started on the next chapter.
That's all I have to say. So later!
