Loons, Rathsparks, and Vengeance Demons
Hey all. This is a short one-shot that I wrote when I thought one night—what if two of the most delightfully nutty characters Luna and Anya met. I hope you enjoy.
Luna Lovegood twirled. Round and round and round. Her eyes chased a lithe and colorful rathspark. Keep your eyes on it, darling. Her father's words and the warm feeling she felt while tucked into bed spurred her spinning on. Rathsparks steal memories. They can't do it if keep your eyes on them.
Luna kept her overly large blue eyes on the mini-creature. It chittered at her. Luna laughed. The sound spilling from her pale throat. Luna panted. Her young lungs burned. She would not let this creature beat her. If she was to be a great explorer, she cannot fail this first challenge. She would continue until the creature grew tired and assumed human form.
Her papa would be so proud. He may even allow her to write an article for The Quibbler. At nine and five months, Luna would be the youngest writer. Luna skittered to a stop when a human sized, pale female replaced the fluttering form of the Ruthspark.
Luna tripped over her feet and tumbled to the ground. She landed on her butt in the green grass. She grinned up at the magical creature. When her eyes spied the deep grooves that formed in the pale skin, the girl breathed, "Oh." What an unfortunate face, Luna could not help but thinking.
Anya Jenkins sighed. She rested her hands on her hips. Finer nails pointed. She gazed down at the pale little girl who seemed to be gazing at her with one eye. After a few moments, the girl switched between her right and left. Ridiculous. Surely, her friend didn't have to send her to help a defective human child? Scorned woman were so much easier. "Let's get this over with."
The girl finally opened both her eyes. She climbed to her feet. She beamed at the magical creature. Then she pouted. She missed the bright colors. This form of the creature seemed booooring.
"What is it that you wish, little girl." Anya expected a wish to have the girl's dead mother back. From what she heard, that was usually the wish that grieving mini-humans spoke.
Luna jumped from foot to foot. Goody, the rathspark spoke to her. Her papa would be so thrilled to hear about her adventure. She wanted longer with the magical creature. And her Rathspark was gonna grant her wish. "I wish you didn't appear so human."
Anya brown eyes widened. The amulet around the beings neck flared. The humanoid figure shifted. Skin bubbled. Pigment darkened. The tall figure shrunk. Finally the figure hovered in the air at eye level. Cute little red horns. Black cat slit eyes. Translucent skin that glowed. Little fine lines that followed the enlongated facial structure. Anya opened her mouth to reveal white, sharp little teeth. She shrieked.
Luna Lovegood clapped her hands together. She waved at the being. Luna Lovegood danced around the flying figure like a demented witch child. Her papa would be so proud. Luna skipped over to her bag. She pulled out a camera. Snapped a few pictures. Waved. And then skipped away.
Anya Jenkins shrieked. She buzzed around. Anya Jenkins hated human children. She would never, ever, ever work with any of them ever again. She prayed that her boss could help her regain her demon form. Vengeance demons could not do their jobs as little red monsters. And even worse? Anya Jenkins would not be having sex anytime soon.
Damn.
