A warm sun invaded the island of windmill village. The windmills on the island were spinning with joy. Nothing could possibly go wrong. It really did seem like a perfect day; especially for a young boy with a straw-hat. The boy's name is Monkey D. Luffy, and his dream, to become king of the pirates. He kept that dream since it began, with the straw-hat. Not turning back, just taking on the world head first. Or at least the jungle forest he lived in head first. You see, he had just finished training with his freckled brother, Ace. Luffy was covered in bruises and cuts, but still walked on.

"Oi Luffy," Ace called from far in front, "why don't you just give up? Even with the devil fruit you ate, you still can't beat me."

Luffy groaned a little, "You just see, I'll beat you one day! Then I'll become king of the pirates!"

"Pfft, you keep saying that, and each time you do it gets harder to believe." Ace laughed at his own joke.

"When are we going to eat? I'm starving!"

"We just ate a tiger a little while ago! Only hell knows where all that food goes!"

Luffy chuckled, with a big goofy grin on his face. Then he stopped. Ace looked back when he didn't hear the other set of footsteps. "What's wrong Luffy?"

"Shh, do you hear that?" the two began to look in different directions, it sounded like a girl. A girl who was crying…

"It's coming from the shore." Ace said, making sure not to raise his voice to loud.

The two small boys ran to the sandy shore to see a small girl around the same age as Luffy. She sat alone in the sand, crying her eyes out. There was no one around her, just a broken boat. A freak storm must have hit, because it was smashed to smithereens. He clothes were tattered and her hair was a little messy.

"It's just a girl, let her do her crying and let's go Luffy." Ace started to walk away, but didn't hear Luffy's footsteps again. "Luffy?" looking back he saw Luffy crouched next to the girl. "Luffy! Fine do what you want! I'm going back to bug Dadan." With that he left; leaving Luffy, alone with the crying girl.

Luffy didn't know what to do. He had never talked with another girl before, besides Minako and Dadan. Well here it goes. "Oi, why are you crying?"

The girl looked up, "I'm not crying," she said as she wiped away her tears. "Now leave me alone!" she punched his head, but it only the head flew back, as if it was a paddle ball. "What in the world?"

"I ate a devil fruit." He stretched his mouth, "Now I'm a rubber man." Luffy made all kinds of funny faces; some even made the girl smile. If you're sad about your boat, I can get it fixed for you."

"Really?" her eyes were filled with hope. "Why are you helping me?" her question didn't make him break out in sweat or cause him to blush.

He just answered back, "Because we are friends." He turned around to walk back to the forest.

The girl scoffed at him. "Ugh, I'm not your friend. I don't have any friends, or want any friends!" the boy just kept walking, almost as if ignoring her. "Are you even listening to me?" she soon caught up to him, and when she did she asked him. "What's your name?"

"Monkey D. Luffy, I'm the one whose going to be king of the pirates!"

She stopped. "Pirates?" she whispered. "I hate pirates. That really makes me want to hate you!"

"You still want your boat fixed right?"

"Ugh, yes, but we definitely aren't friends. I am only letting you fix my boat, got it?"

"Ok," they walked along even farther, and then something occurred to Luffy. "By the way, you never told me your name."

She pushed away a strand of her orange hair, "It's Nami."
