A life for a life, my debt is paid! It all happened so fast, and Mulan was still frozen in the snow, surrounded by silence. A thousand thoughts filled her head. But a question bigger than the other "what would Dad say, and what would happen to the family's reputation"? She has disgraced the family and stands to be ostracized by family. An outcast of society. Everyone wanted to know what crime she had committed, and look askance at her family. Maybe it was in fact better if Shang had completed his duty, and killed her. She felt a rage when she thought of him! Why did not he just? Why pretend? Did he get a power flip it? Did he enjoy seeing her fear? Maybe it was not his fault that she was here. But hatred of him made it more bearable to be in the situation she was in. It is, after all, easier to be angry than sad. All the feelings she had had for him disappeared and a violent hatred, and desire for revenge over the humiliation he had shown her overshadow everything!
She would not let her family pay for her mistake again. She stood up bravely up from the snow, and looked out over the mountains, with the imperial city in the background. She was as outcast, and could just as well even sign up. Excluded women lost their family name and often ended their days as worn dancers and prostitutes. She did not care. What was the point?
