After Dwayne's Death

This poem was inspired by Dwayne's death and how his lover would react, especially when she discovers the way he was killed, "death by stereo." It describes the haunting feeling she experiences and her longing for him to return to the cave. Even though she knows he will never return physically, his presence still remains... A thousand stars

Won't light your way,

A thousand scars

Won't make you stay.

I lie in wait

Inside the cave,

But still

You will not come.

I scratch the curtains

And rip the sheets,

I walked on smooth glass

Beneath my feet,

But now it's broken,

Cracked and sharp.

I lie there,

Lonely in the dark.

There was nothing I could do

Or say

To make you stay.

I could not wait

To see your face,

But instead I saw your fate

And dark decay.

I wept

And swept

You underneath the floor,

Out of my thoughts

And through death's door.

But my heart was breaking

All the time,

To think you were in pieces

In reality and my mind.

Vampires never go to heaven,

They just linger in the atmosphere,

Leaving their mark

And their shiver inside you,

Holding onto your fear.
