"I don't know what to do, Vidalia. He just sits there all day and plays with three GALS." Greg sighed into the phone.
"I don't know, Greg. He keeps calling Oliver and onion and it's really stressing the kid out. He doesn't even talk to Steven anymore. Have you tried taking him to his mom's grave? She's only been gone a year. Maybe it's trauma." Vidalia said.
"Dad. Garnet split into Sapphire and Ruby!" Steven yelled as he ran up to his dad with a violet GALS split two. That toy always seemed to come apart.
"Okay, buddy. We'll fix her later. Greg smiled at his son. Steven was all he had now, but Steven was slipping away from him. Before Rose, Steven's mom, died, Steven was a normal boy. Now all he did was play with three GALS dolls his mom gave him before she died.
"But what about Pearl? She gets nervous when Sapphire and Ruby are split up."
"I'll call you later Vidalia." Greg said quickly before hanging up. "Pearl will be fine. Why don't you get out of your pajamas and we'll go visit Mom and Connie?" Conie was Steven's little sister. She and Rose both died due to complications from the birth. Greg often watched Steven pretend to play with an imaginary Connie.
"I'm a Crystal Gem, I don't need to take off my pajamas!" The boy squealed in delight. Greg noticed something strange under his shirt.
"Steven, lift up your shirt."
"Why?"
"Just do it. The boy did as he was told. Steven had colored a large, pink circle on his belly button. Steven would spend hours telling Greg how the circle was his gem and it could make a protective bubble and a shield. Greg sighed sadly and helped Steven dress. Steven only wanted to wear pajamas or a red shirt with a star and a pair of jeans. Greg would have to get Steven new clothes soon. He had put on a lot of weight since his mother died. One day Steven ate several boxes of ice cream cats.
"Where are we going?" Steven asked as Greg struggled to button the boy's pants. He looked like he would burst out of his clothing any second.
"We are going to visit Mom and Connie." Greg smiled sadly. Steven's face lit up at the idea of visiting Rose.
"I miss Mom."
"I do too."
