"I think I miss bread most, like warm and fresh out the oven. All soft and moist, with jam or chocolate spread. Mmm."
Merle thought she looked so hot describing it, the words rolling of her tongue, the way she let out a slight moan as she imagined the old luxury.
Beth lifted her head up from the book she was reading and sniffed the air. She swore she could smell the aroma of fresh baked bread, and began to panic that she was hallucinating like Rick had been recently. Slowly, she got up and followed the smell, silently questioning her sanity.
Merle was standing in the kitchen, and on the counter beside him was a fresh loaf of bread and a pot of jam. He smirked when he looked up to see her timidly eyeing the food.
"After what ya said about missing it, I tried ta find some flour that was still in date." He explained.
"Oh my gosh, it smells amazing." She breathed, taking a step closer.
"Officer friendly let me have the kitchen area to myself this afternoon if I did night watch for the rest of the week."
"You did that for me?"
"It was worth it to see the look on your face." He chuckled.
Merle cut a slice from the loaf and spread a layer of raspberry jam onto it before holding it up to her. She took a small bite, the slice still in his grip. "Mmm." She moaned, closing her eyes.
Fuck. He shifted, trying not to think about the tightness of his pants.
"What do you miss most? I never asked." Beth asked, chewing slowly.
"Ma damn hand."
Her face fell, "I don't think I can help with that."
Merle thought for a minute, resisting telling her how much he missed a good lay. "Books. Woodbury had a fine library but ain't found one around here in the cleared blocks anyway."
She looked up at him in shock, "books? Reading books?"
"What, ya surprised a man like me can even read?"
"No.." She stammered, "I didn't mean.. sorry. We managed to grab some from the farm, before we had to leave. Daddy has some you might like that I could lend you! To say thank you." She smiled, standing on her tiptoes to kiss him on the cheek.
