A Cry In The Dark
By Lady Trunks
I don't mention any names but you should be able to figure it out. If you've read any of my other fics, I'm sure you'll know right off. This is just a short one-part angsty-ish fic.
She loves him.
It seems strange to admit it, even to herself but as she gazes upon his face, tracing the flawless contours with her hand she knows without a doubt that he is the most perfect thing in her life. Her hand gently traces over his lips, so soft and warm, and for once not curled up into that familiar smirk. Her fingers move to lightly outline his face.
She strokes her fingers up the side of his face and buries them in his hair. That perfect white hair that is always impeccably positioned no matter what the circumstances. How did he get it to do that? Maybe one day she will ask him, but now it just is not that important.
Her gaze continues her inspection, moving to his eyes. He has the most amazing eyes; it is possible that they are one of the things that made her fall in love with him. Those gorgeous blue eyes that could appear like ice when he was angry, then faster than you can blink, change to the most amazing sapphire color. And then there are times when they will darken until they are almost gray when he looks at her, only at her.
He silently allows her scrutiny without a word, just letting her touch him, knowing instinctively how much these little things mean to her. To anyone else touch would seem insignificant, something to take for granted. But not her, never her.
When she finishes her exploration he wraps his arms around her and pulls her against him. She once again marvels at how someone so slight of build could be so solid, so strong. As he holds her in his arms she feels protected, cherished. But most of all she feels loved. It is a feeling that she is not that familiar with and has yearned for so long to experience. It is a feeling that she knows she will never feel with anyone else.
He slowly lowers his head until the space between them disappears and their lips meet in a soft kiss. It is a kiss that connects their souls and fills her with a contentment that she never believed was possible. In that one moment everything disappears and the only thing that matters are the two of them.
He moves to deepen the kiss, and she…
Wakes up to darkness. To reality. To the reality of a life spent living in fear. Fear that she will always be untouchable. A reality where everyone always takes an almost imperceptible step back when she nears them. Where a young, fragile girl hides behind a mask to keep other people from seeing that she is not as tough as she appears. And, worse of all, to a reality where she must keep her love a secret. Where the person she loves is her enemy, and can only be her enemy. Where the only kiss she can give is in her mind, and where the only happiness is found in dreams.
And in the darkness she cries. For dreams that can never come true, and a love that can never be.
What can I say, I was depressed. And brilliant lil' chicken that I am, I decided to read angst-y fics. Yeah, that's a good cure. I have to say that How To Say, "I Love You" by Nadja Lee is the most depressing fic ever (no matter how many times you read it). If you haven't read it I strongly recommend it (even if you don't like the pairing (AU Scott/Rogue Movie Verse) keep with it, you'll be bawling). Between that and Not Another Number In My Arm by Peachy (Another Movie Verse fic), well let's just say I'm not exactly cheery right now. So, tell me what you think.
