Link had just left Ordon Village. It was a bit heart breaking, especially for Ilia and Colin. But Link had been asked for a special position on her royal guard. He wasn't meant to be a farm boy. Maybe it was just the sadness of never seeing Midna again. He didn't really know. After a grand far well from the gang, Link was about to get on Epona, when he walked over to Colin and said, "Colin, you're the new hero of the village." He gave him the Ordon Sword and Ordon shield. "Don't let me down." Colin just gave Link a big hug saying, "I'll miss you." He responded, "I'll miss you too." With that he got on Epona and rode off to Castle Town.
He came back to see Hyrule Castle completely restored. Princess Zelda had used the power of the triforce of wisdom to rebuild the grand palace. She walked him around the castle. "You're position will be the head of the castle guard. You will have to protect the innocent of Castle Town with our guards. I have seen you fight Ganondorf. You will be wonderful." She walked him to another room. "As captain of the royal guard, you will reside in your own private barrack. I...had a little help from Ilia." He couldn't believe it. It was exactly like the inside of his house in Ordon Village, except there was no treasure chest with his 50 rupee stash. Inside the closet were a few tunics resembling those of the hero, his farm boy costume, and the Zora armor. There was a little pot of Ordon soup that contained fish, pumpkin and goat cheese. The only difference was a hylian shield on the wall. Zelda said, "As captain of the guard, you will require a sword. I had this one custom made. It looks exactly like the fabled sword created by the sages."
He picked it up. It didn't feel like it had the holy power of the original, but it looked exactly like the Master Sword. He said, "It's all wonderful." But he still had a bit of a somber look. "You miss Midna don't you." He replied, " She may have picked on me a lot and criticized my every move, but she was the only person with me the entire journey. I just can't believe I'll never see her again. She was like the pesky sister I never had." She placed a hand on his cheek. "She defiantly misses you too, but she would probably want both herself and you to be strong." He then had a more cheerful look on his face.
Link looked out the balcony window to see the training guards. "They don't look very reliable." "They aren't. They usually cower the second trouble is afoot. But if you're a good enough inspiration as I know you are, you can shape them up to be as strong as a temple. By the way, I never got to thank you properly for saving Hyrule." She kissed him on the lips. All of his fears and sadness were gone. "I will be approving bills if you need me."
Link had a lot of inspiration to be captain of the guard now. He wouldn't let her down.
