The sunbeam shifted, lavishing all of its precious attention on a potted plant. Heero's eyes flickered from the computer screen, focusing on the brilliant white spot unfolding on the couch. Stretching, first the left leg, then the right, clawing at the sun-warmed plush covering while the back muscles rippled under the soft whiteness. Getting on all fours, and hopping off the seat gracefully, discarding the warmed blanket in the process.

He kept his eyes on the swaying tail as it disappeared into the kitchen. He sighed and returned his attention to the screen. His life had gotten rather complicated in recent days; fortunately he managed, after a tremendous amount of disasters and subsequent whitewashing, to find people who shared his problem and were willing to offer advice.

'Welcome to FelineForum Community,' the user information page proclaimed proudly. Heero smirked. Such a simple solution to a complicated problem. Not that it straightened all the kinks, but it certainly helped to deal with many of them.

He glossed over the page, pausing about halfway through. "Cats love to be petted?" he wondered aloud. His fingers automatically sought out the ctrl and C keys, appending several paragraphs to an already extensive document. "Ear scratching, rubbing the belly," he muttered, committing the phrases to memory.

A soft clink from the kitchen indicated that the food he'd left out had met with approval. Heero nodded to himself and added the recipe to the list of approved foods. Trial and error. Tricky.

Heero read on, intent on his research, raising his head only when the couch was occupied again. 'Petting, huh?' he thought to himself, saving his findings and moving to the sofa. Almost hesitantly he sat down on one end, not too close, but near enough to reach the ears comfortably. Slowly, he extended his hand and rested it, as lightly as possible, behind one velvety ear. His fingers rubbed small circles on the skin, tangling in the thick hair along the way.

A twitch. Heero held his breath in anticipation. It could go either way at this point. He breathed in relief when the head moved to rest on his thigh and the slender body rumbled with a hearty purr.

Leisurely, his right hand moved down, though the pristine white, to reach the belly. His eyes grew wide as he felt the tremor of delight and a soft mewl. Jackpot! He opened his eyes and looked down, into the wide-open violet eyes. Heero smirked, flattening his palm and sliding it lower.

It was almost supernatural, how feline Duo's nature was. Nothing and no one could make him rely on anything or anybody but himself. Never asking for anything. Rarely accepting, even things readily offered.

"You're such a kitten," Heero said with a smirk, pulling Duo fully onto his lap, both of his hands encircling his catch and rubbing their way down the slender back. Duo cocked his head to the side and smiled curiously.

"So, 'm yer pet?" Heero just looked up and smiled.

END.
