Scorpius Malfoy was an artist.

He did it all; drawing, painting, sculpting… he was an artist.

Lily Potter was a beauty.

She had it all; Long, auburn hair, big brown eyes, and a perfect smile.

They grew up together yet completely separate, because there was a difference and age and a rivalry of houses.

But fate plays a cruel game, and the stars wink as they change your life.

Lily became an auror, the only one in her family to follow her dad's footsteps.

Scorpius was hired as a sketch artist for the aurors, because he hadn't yet made it big.

They see each other from afar; he'd glance around, and look hastily down at his sketch to pass the time until he was needed again. She'd look at the handsome, quiet man she knew only by name.

But when the stars wink again, give a little push…they were fated to meet.

She sits down and describes a woman, giving every detail she could remember, her eyes closed. He listened, asking questions, about expression, innocence of her eyes, blush of her cheeks…but he wasn't talking about the suspect. Not really.

She talked, for an hour they sat together, drinking tea, as he used charcoal to draw. He got it perfect; the next day, this woman was captured in a pub near London.

Lily went back, to both their surprises. "That was a perfect drawing."

Scorpius looked up and, for the first time, smiled. "I tried."

"I'm glad we met, Scorpius," she said.

"It was lovely. I hope to see you soon," he replied.

And the stars gave another little nudge; Scorpius looked up one day to see Lily laughing, her back to a fake window, giving off a light resembling sun. Her eyes twinkled as the 'sun' gave her an angelic appearance. Before he knew what he was doing, his hand was moving across the parchment, this way and that.

He kept a sketch book, things he wanted to remember, forever in his mind. And over the months, it filled with Lily.

She found him handsome, looking from afar as his hair grew longer, falling in his face. He'd push it out of the way and some charcoal would smudge his perfect complexion; she'd get the urge to caress his face, rubbing it off in her mind.

She went out of her way after that, trying to get to know him better. She brought him tea, she brought him a biscuit…but did he notice her?

Somewhere in the sky, something was getting impatient.

They found themselves alone in the elevator one day, going home. They smiled politely and talked about a case the aurors were working on. He was holding his sketch book, and when the elevator jolted particularly hard, it fell open. It fell open to a page of Lily, surrounded by light like an angel, her smile lighting up her whole face. His first sketch of her, when he first noticed her light splash of freckles…

She gasped; he cringed. Both turned red, and both went to scoop it up. She beat him. "I'm sorry," he mumbled, running a hand through his hair.

"It's beautiful," she said. She flipped the page, spotting one of her in a meadow, surrounded by wildflowers.

"You're beautiful," he replied bravely.

She stood straight and kissed him on the cheek, not knowing why, or what possessed her. But it was a start to something beautiful, that moment…and the stars shone brighter that night.
