Clary was exhausted. Between everything that had happened at Lake Lyn, and this new owl demon that was wreaking havoc, she couldn't catch a break. It was late, almost midnight, and the institute was almost completely deserted. Most people were out patrolling the streets for demons. Absentmindedly she found her feet leading her to Jace's room. She didn't exactly know why, but she felt the urge to curl up in his warm bed. She entered the room and let the atmosphere surround her. It was so overwhelmingly Jace, from the impeccable cleanliness to the stacks of books on the shelves. She climbed into his bed, knowing that it would be a while before he returned from his search for the owl. She was worried about him. There was still something off about him, and she feared that her actions at the lake were now affecting him. After some time she drifted off to sleep, her fiery hair cascading around her, hiding her face from view.
Jace entered the institute with a sigh. He was covered in ichor, and wanted nothing more than to sleep. He had nothing. There was no trace of the owl-faced demon that was possessing mundanes.
He said goodnight to his parabatai, patting him on the arm affectionately before making his way to his bedroom. He pushed open the door and threw his jacket on the nearby chair, too tired to bother hanging it up. He was about to turn to go to the bathroom when a flash of red caught his eye. He did a double take. Clary was fast asleep, buried under his thick comforter. He smiled to himself, the image of her curled up in his bed made his heart flutter in a way he had never felt before. He sat down on the bed next to her, brushing the hair out of her face gently. Her nose scrunched up adorably, and her couldn't help but let out a quiet chuckle. He bent down and pressed a soft kiss to her temple, before getting up and moving over to the bathroom.
He took a steaming hot shower, allowing the scalding water to ease the tension in his body. When he finished he put on a pair of sweatpants, and climbed into bed. He pulled Clary against his chest, wrapping his arms securely around her waist. Jace buried his face between her neck and shoulder, letting her hair tickle his face. She cuddled farther into his chest, letting it a sigh of contentment. Jace felt his exhaustion overcome him, and for the first time since they got back from Idris, no nightmares plagued his dreams.
