Author's Note/Warning Please Read: Hey everyone. I've got lots of mixed reviews about this fic so I'm now putting a warning at the top before it. This is NOT a "happy" drabble, but a more realistic viewpoint of the movie. So if you're looking to be entertained, this is not your fic. Ponyo basically doesn't get her happy ending which a lot of people like so read on if you choose to knowing that, but don't say I didn't warn you.

Ponyo's cries echoed throughout the underwater household. Hundreds of tiny high-pitched squeaks joined her in her misery. Fujimoto sighed and brought his hand to cover his face. He knew this was bound to happen. A five year old human child didn't have the capacity to fully understand the vow of "love".
He knew it had been a bad idea. Brunnhilde was just too young to decide what was right for her. Now, twelve years later she was back home and depressed from Souske's rejection. The boy had grown older and had found love with another human girl. Real love. The type of love children did not understand until they were older. But Brunnhilde was headstrong and highly skilled in magic. She pushed and pushed and succeeded in getting her way. Now, she was suffering for her foolishness.
Fujimoto winced at the sound of another high pitched wail. He could still clearly hear his daughter's cries from down the hall in the next room. With a heavy sigh, he heaved himself out of his chair and started rummaging through his cluttered cabinets. After a few minutes of searching and shoving away empty bottles and old books, he emerged grasping a tattered box filled with soft tissues. Turning on his heels, he slowly walked through the door and down the hall.
"This wouldn't have happened if she had just respected her father," he mumbled to the tissue box.

Author's Note: So here it is. Let me explain the reason for my drabble. Most people seem to have gotten it, but others not so much. After watching the movie, I was struck by how "unrealistic" it was for a Miyazaki film. I was also sympathetic to Fujimoto's point of view because the poor guy is just bashed. I understand that maybe he went overboard, but what stuck out was the fact that Ponyo is just a little girl. Five years old maybe? And she's leaving her family to be with a little boy that she "loves". I really wish I had written this earlier, but basically my friend and I remarked about how children don't really understand the meaning of "love" and how they were asking too much of Souske. People interpret movies differently, and this is how I interpreted it. I think Ponyo was just too young to make such a grown up decision and that maybe Fujimoto was worried about something that no one else was.
Hopefully you enjoyed, and if not, well I'm ready for your flames! *Puts on fire suit and holds a water hose at the ready* I'm glad it sparked some debate at least, but please respect others views (mine in this case in regards to the fic) even if you don't agree.
