Really need to stop calling my fics dreams...ah well.

Don't own Naruto

III

A young boy lies down to sleep at night.

Cold, alone in the draft, dusty, dark apartment.

As he drifts off, he awakens suddenly; the sun is shining brightly outside, a light snow covering the ground and the sounds and smells of bacon frying in the kitchen drift into his bedroom. He curls back into his warm, soft cottony sheets before a cat like stretch escapes him and he rolls out of bed, scratching under his night cap before wiping the sleep out of his eyes.

The apartment smells faintly like lavender, the walls covered in family pictures; pictures of Christmas, of baby's first, birthdays, mother and father, father and son, mother and son…

They're all smiling.

He looks up to a smiling woman, eyes the color of cornflowers and blond hair, long hair pulled back in a messy pony tail with an apron pink with frills. "Good morning son."

He grins sleepily, plopping down in the chair before a plate of eggs and bacon is set before him. "Eat quickly, or you'll be late for your school.

"Where's Dad?"

She smiles warmly. "He's already left. He had to go in early to talk to some delegates."

"Who?"

She tousles his hair. "Delegates: people from Suna are here about the chuunin exams. You better learn all these words if you plan on taking over for your father one day!"

He shrugs and rolls his eyes, but gives a sheepish grin. One day I'll become an even greater Hokage than my old man…

The door bell rings, and his name ringing with laughter is called from behind the door. "Hurry up Naruto! We're going to be late!"

He shovels the rest of the food in his mouth, getting a feather light kiss from his mother before dashing out the door. As he swings the door open, a bright flash of light encompasses him, springing him back awake.
