Caroline felt Klaus gently run his finger down her back. She turned to him, her hair fanning out across the pillow. He bent over and kissed her gently on the lips. She smiled at him, and smiled back. He lay back down, propping his head up on his hand and looking down at her.
"I want to tell you something," he said, seriously.
"What?" Caroline asked. Her stomach filled with dread. If he was going to tell her to leave, she had nowhere to go.
"You're beautiful," he stated flatly. "I've had many beautiful women in my bed over the years," he continued, his face was oddly expressionless. Caroline closed her eyes quickly, because she could feel tears beginning to form. Suddenly, Klaus shot out of bed, and began pacing the room in an agitated manner; Caroline pulled a sheet over her body and drew her knees up to her chest. She followed his erratic movements with her eyes, becoming increasingly concerned that he may try to harm her. She had never felt this way before, but the way he was acting made her worry.
"There's something different about you," he burst out. "You're fragile and insecure." He paused, turning his back on her. "I can never understand what an amazing woman like you has to be insecure about."
Caroline felt her heart thud in her chest.
"There's something about you…" Klaus trailed off. He turned back around to face her, his face full of uncertainty. An emotion Caroline had never seen on Klaus' face before. "I want to be with you always," he said, sitting on the edge of the bed, once again placing his back towards Caroline so she couldn't see the expression on his face. "I worry that you might leave me, and I realised that I don't want you to leave me, I want to give you everything."
Klaus turned around to face Caroline, she edged closer to him, the sheet slipping down to reveal her naked chest. He stretched out his arms, and gripped her forearms tightly. "I'm so in love with you," he told her, his blue eyes looking deep into hers. She lifted her right hand and gently stroked the side of his face.
"I love you too," she said.
