Sometimes, when Sakura is sitting with Lee, or talking to Lee, or kissing Lee, she can hear, in the back of her mind, a voice, telling her he's not enough.

And she doesn't understand it, she doesn't get why. And so she stands, silently, in the place she used to meet her team, and waits for a reason.

But the ones who used to tell her what to do, the ones who knew when she was being stupid, they are not there. And she knew this, but still, she sighs.

And she knows, deep inside, that Lee is perfect, that he would respect her, and protect her and care for her, and most of all love her, but she can't feel more for him, can't imagine them together forever, can't love him.

And if she's completely honest, she's waiting for Sasuke to return, to… she doesn't know what she wants him to do, but she knows she needs him to say something, damn her, bless them, anything, and until that happens anything Lee says will not be enough.

But she won't say anything, because that's just not her. So she'll sit with Lee, and she'll talk to Lee, and she'll kiss Lee, and she'll watch him slowly die a little each day, as he waits for her to accept him.

And Lee is realising this as he walks past the ramen restaurant where Naruto warned him Sakura still pined for Sasuke, past the training ground where Gai told him his Youth was fading, past the park where Neji and Tenten expressed their concern.

And as he falls, past the faces of Hokages' past, he aknowleges this, and welcomes the ground as it rushes towards him.
