A/N - Okay, this is my first attempt at a SongFic, so hopefully it doesn't suck too much. The song is Brand New Day by 40 Foot Echo, one of the most beautiful songs out there, in my opinion.

The fic is about Zack's dad, Luke, as you'll be able to tell, and it takes on his actions in my story You Never Know. I know it's pretty stupid to do this now, as I haven't even gotten to that part of the story yet, but please bare with, 'cause I was listening to this song last night and it was just perfect!

And, of course, I do not own any SoR characters (although we're not sure of Zack's parents' names, are we?), and I do not own the song Brand New Day by 40 Foot Echo.

I Got Crazy

Luke Mooneyham slowly closed the door to his son's bedroom behind him. Behind another closed door, he could hear his wife, Laura, falling to sleep to the sound of her own sobs. He slowly crouched down by Zack's bed, noticing that his cheeks were tearstained as well.

Never thought I'd say I'm sorry

Never thought I'd be the one to bring you down

Luke didn't know where he had gone wrong. When had he passed that point where he couldn't contain his anger anymore? When had he passed the point where it was okay for him to do what he was doing?

What stung the most was that he was hurting all the people he loved, by really only touching one person.

Now when I look out my window

But there doesn't seem to be anyone around

Luke slid down to sit right by Zack's sleeping head. Every time he went on one of his rampages, he was never able to remember a thing the next morning, or even a couple hours later. But the problem was, he knew he had done it, because of the hurt and betrayed expressions on Zack's face.

Wonder what it'd be like to carry on

Yeah, now I got crazy

But I guess that's just me

Lately, Laura's face had started bruising: cold, hard evidence against Luke, proving him guilty. Laura was so strong, she had never shown any emotion to the point where Luke almost questioned if it was his brutality that had put that ugly mark on his wife's face.

But Zack, he always looked as though he never wanted to talk to Luke again.

If I could turn back time before the wrong

As Luke sat, looking at Zack's pained expression as he slept, he came to a realization. It was time for him to put down the bottle that had caused so much pain and aggravation, and act like a real man.

And I

I think I'll change my ways

Because that's what Zack needed, a real man in his life, a role model.

So all your words get noticed

Tomorrow's a brand new day

Luke smiled at the simplicity of it all, as he kissed Zack on the cheek a final time.

Never thought I'd say I'm sorry

"I'm sorry, bud."

Never thought I'd be the one

He was still smiling as he turned to meet his wife's cries of pain, relieved that he was finally going to change.

I think I'll change my ways

Tomorrow's a new day
