Kara had always been a slightly anxious person, but she was smart, she knew
something was wrong. She was worried today, she glanced up the clock, it
read 6:30, her husband would be home around 7:00 or 7:30. She'd talk it
over with him, he'd tell her what to do. Kara glanced up back at the
clock, now it read, 6:32. It would be a long night.
Pacing back and forth, she couldn't stop wringing her hands, it was a habit of hers. Her long black hair was tied up in a bun on her head, stray hairs were escaping the bun and she barely noticed. She was 37 years in age, but appeared to be someone who just turned twenty, but tonight she looked far older. Dressed in a suit she looked like a lawyer that had just lost a very important case, she was a lawyer, but hadn't yet gone to court with her case. She sighed and sat, 6:55.
She glanced out the window and let out a sigh of relief, the red car pulled up the driveway, just visible out the living room. She watched her husband, Dan, walk up and she met him at the front door.
"Hi honey," His blue eyes showed deep concern for his wife, "What's wrong? Kara?"
Kara tried to fight back the sobs, "It's Lily. she, she called and she sounded really, really worried." She couldn't keep in the sobs and she started crying.
Dan tried to comfort his wife, "Dear, it's alright, if you can tell me exactly what happened," he knew that Lily's boyfriend was abusive, yet he never could do anything.
"Alright." She forced herself to stop sobbing.
The scenario played through her head as she talked it out.
~ She had been preparing for her case, when her cell went off.
"Kara"
"Hey, Kara, um. I need to see you, now," Lily sounded incredibly scared, she seemed to be crying, "I'd drive but." a gruff voice, the voice of Matt, Lily's abusive boyfriend could be heard, 'Who are you talking to?? If it's a guy you're dead!' 'It's Kara! Kara, you know my friend??' 'Yeah right, get over here now!' and there was the sound of a scream and the thud of the phone hitting the wall, then the line went dead.
Kara had been shocked and had instantly gone and asked her superior if she could get off a little early. Her superior hearing the worried tone in her voice allowed it. She had drove to Lily's house, and found it empty, but with the car still parked in the driveway, she had freaked and came straight home. ~
"And I've been here the last 45 minutes or so waiting for you to get home." She had tears in her eyes, they were threatening to fall.
"It's alright Kara, we can go to. to 'his' place, and if we can't find her we'll call the police k?" Inside he was worried, he knew this Matt, they had gone to school together, he had a mean punch and when he was drunk, which was often, he could easily take out someone twice his size, he feared what he could do to Lily, she was only half his size.
They drove through the city to Matt's house, when they arrived 30 minutes later, they gasped at what they saw. Kara started bawling, and Dan pulled out his cell and dialed 911.
