Disclaimer: I don't own Batman

Disclaimer: I don't own Batman. Tada.

A/N: This is set during Dark Knight. A kind of insight on the Batman Joker relationship from the Joker's point of view.

Why so serious? It took me three years to come up with that catch phrase and it doesn't even apply right now. Damn it all, Batman. Isn't that what it takes to be a villain, I'm not even really a villain. I'm really doing society a service, taking out the trash. So why am I the one hanging upside down dangling from a cord.

Why so serious? The Batman doesn't have a catch phrase. Here I am, twisting and twirling by his whim, and he doesn't even have a catch phrase.

Why so serious? I know what made me, how I became. But what made my Dear Adversary, how did he become.

Why so serious?

My Enemy.

My Friend.

Why so serious?

My Light.

My Dark.

Why so serious?

My Equal.

My Brother.

Here I am twirling above Gotham, light as a feather. You may call it gravity that pulls me down. I call it Chaos, Janus, my brother in arms that keeps me up. Two-face Harvey Dent is a mockery of the true anarchy to which I pledged myself, my soul.

I am a leaf, floating on the wind. I am a leaf on the wind. I am an idea. I am an agent to a higher power.

No more am I flesh and blood, I am no more that than my counterpart, the brother of my heart.

One without the other they cannot exist. When I fade away from Gotham, move on to some other patch ripe for the picking, Batman will take my place he will be the hunted. He will have a cell with his name emblazoned upon it. Because of me, he exists, and because of him, I exist.

To be or not to be-that is the question. We are destined to dance for all our lives-what better way-what better partner.

Shan Yu, a poet-while I have little patience for the delicate flowers or bees of Emily Dickinson-he taught me that you will never know a man even if you live with him every day, eat your meals with him, you will never know the true man until you hold him on the brink of death. On that day you will meet the man inside.

I want to meet the real Batman. I tried-I pushed him, but he is incorruptible. I want to meet you Brother, on the day you take a life-my life, I will meet you.

Why so serious? We have all the time in the world for introductions. I'm just dying to meet you, Batman.

Inspired after watching Dark Knight for the second time. A hint of Firefly if you're good. Just a little drabble about what is going on in the Joker's head as he hangs upside down.
