Author's Note: I do not own the characters from the Chronicles of Narnia or the song "Far Away." They belong to the author C. S. Lewis and the singer Nickelback.
Far Away
Peter was sitting on the ridge outside of Aslan's How, trying to sort things out. The night raid on Miraz's castle had been a complete disaster and just moments ago he and Caspian had almost resurrected the White Witch. But Edmund stabbed the ice before anything could happen. Peter was dumbstruck, and before he could find the words, Edmund replied, "I know. You had it sorted." But this time he didn't. He never had anything sorted.
As he sat there, he could hear something. Someone was singing. Curious to know who it was, he followed the voice. It lead Peter to the Stone Table, and with her back towards him, staring up at the carving of Aslan fro where she was sitting, was Lucy. As Peter stood there in the entrance, he listened to words that flowed so beautifully from his baby sister's lips.
This time, this place
Misused, mistakes
Too long, too late
Who was I to make you wait
Just one chance
Just one breath
Just in case there's just one left
'Cause you know
You know, you know
That I love you
I have loved you all along
And I miss you
Been far away for far too long
I keep dreaming you'll be with me
And you'll never go
Stop breathing if
I don't see you anymore
Peter knew all too well that Lucy was singing about him. He had not been the same ever since they returned from their first trip to Narnia. He got into so many fights, desperately trying to prove that he was not just a little kid. But Peter never knew how much it hurt Lucy to see him in those situations. Until now.
On my knees, I'll ask
Last chance for one last dance
'Cause with you, I'd withstand
All of hell to hold your hand
I'd give it all
I'd give for us
Give anything but I won't give up
'Cause you know
You know, you know
Peter's heart just about broke hearing his sister's words. Lucy was the one who always had a faith that never wavered, not once. She was one who brought them to this magical land. She was the one who believed that Aslan would help them. Lucy still had faith in him. She needed to know that he had faith in her… and in Aslan.
So far away
Been far away for far too long
So far away
Been far away for far too long
But you know, you know, you know
I wanted
I wanted you to stay
'Cause I needed
I need to hear you say
That I love you
I have loved you all along
And I forgive you
For being away for far too long
Peter, having heard this specific song before, started singing the last few lines.
So keep breathing
'Cause I'm not leaving you anymore
Believe it
Hold on to me and, never let me go
Keep breathing
'Cause I'm not leaving you anymore
Believe it
Hold on to me and, never let me go
Keep breathing
Hold on to me and, never let me go
Keep breathing
Hold on to me and, never let me go
Lucy turned around to see her brother walking towards her, singing those words of comfort. When Peter got closer to her, he could see tears rolling down her cheeks. He kneeled down next to her and wiped them away with his thumb, giving her a small smile. Lucy then pulled him into a hug, never wanting to let him go.
"I missed you Peter," she murmured as more tears flowed from her eyes. "I know," Peter replied, trying to fight back tears himself, kissing the top of her head, "But now I'm back, and I'm never leaving."
As they sat there and hugged, Peter knew that everything would be okay.
