So, first post ever. Finished Dead Space 2 a few days ago, and while I felt that the 'boss-fight' wasn't much of a fight, it was still satisfying to beat the game. So much wasted potential in the 5-eyed necromorph hunter… Anyway, any constructive criticism is welcome. Enjoy.
Isaac grunted as he aimed his contact beam at the ground and fired. The pulse obliterated the shadowy forms of the necromorphs around him, and he used this opportunity to fire another shot at the false Nicole that was flickering towards him. He didn't bother to try to understand how or why this was happening to him; he didn't care about the Marker's ravings about 'Convergence;' all he cared about was ending this second nightmare… and he figured killing this 'Nicole' was a good way to do that.
Almost relishing its cries as his weapon dispelled it again, he turned his attention to the 'heart,' visibly pulsing in the background. He felt, he knew, that this last shot would end it. Grinning behind his helmet, he charged his contact beam, and let fly…
…And was instantly back in Gov Sector, his right hand clutching Tiedemann's javelin launcher, his left hand and shoulder bleeding from the ragged holes that same weapon had punched in them. He looked at the Marker, its massive bulk silent and dark, with sections of its exterior crumbling off of it. He thought back to the last three days, three days of constantly fighting for his life against hordes larger than even those on Aegis VII. Three days that had left him drained, emotionally and physically. He was tired of fighting, of Unitologists, of EarthGov, and of the Markers.
Slowly lowering himself to the ground, he stared blankly at Tiedemann's headless corpse as the digitized voice of the station's AI warned the empty halls of imminent reactor failure. He had no idea how the Marker's attempted convergence affected the Shard, but it didn't surprise him that it had destabilized the fusion reactors. Thinking back, he was glad that he'd had the forethought to launch Ellie in that gunship; at least she was away from this place. It had hurt; he'd heard the anger, mixed in with the despair in her voice as she'd realized what he'd done on that console.
His musings were cut off by a burst of static from his RIG. "You complete bastard! Was this your great plan, dump me off and die?" He shook his head, not very surprised that Ellie was calling him one last time. "I told you, I'm full of bad ideas, remember?" He didn't expect what Ellie said next. "Yeah, well, here's another one: I'm crashing through the roof to get you! Now move your ass." Wait, what? This whole station died because of me; I'm not going to let the one person I'd saved kill herself! "No, wait. No, wait! Ellie, it's too late! Steer clear of the station!" He'd hoped she'd listen and get the hell out fo there, but he wasn't too surprised when she dismissed his order. "Yeah, well, you don't really have a say this time. Heads up!" Seconds later, he heard and felt her entrance. He felt the wind from the venting air, and saw Marker rubble start to rise off the ground. Seeing Ellie's ship, and feeling himself start to rise with the ruins, he made a split-second decision; if Ellie was going to risk her life to save him, then he'd damn well make sure she wasn't wasting her time. Activating his helmet and shin boosters, he started maneuvered towards the open hatch of the gunship, and Ellie's waiting hand.
