This is my first fanfic, so please go easy on me!
Disclaimer- I'm a sixteen year old African American girl, obviously not Dan.

"Just do it," my best friend Carly Shay said as she pushed me toward my crush's apartment.
"Noooo," I whined, "He'll laugh at me." Carly chuckled at this.
"No he won't," she said reassuringly, "he likes you. Plus, it is his birthday and he's not a mean person." Somehow, her words gave me some confidence.
"You're sure he likes me?" I said, insecurity still gnawing at me.
"Of course I'm sure," She said, "Now go."
"All right, bossy pants," I said. And with that, I turned and walked toward his door.

"Ahhh," I said as I sat on my couch, "Happy 17th birthday to me." I smiled. My mom had cooked me a special birthday breakfast before she left (she couldn't get out of work), and turned off my alarm so I could sleep in.
I had got up at 10 and now had my breakfast laid out on the coffee table in front of me. I was turning on the TV when I heard a knock at my apartment door. I got up, opened it, and saw the last person who I thought would wish me a happy birthday. "Sam?"

My hand was shaking as I lifted it to knock on his door.
"Why are you so nervous? It's just Fredward," the voice in my head was taunting, "Buck up, Sam. You're a Puckett."
I hated to admit it, but the voice was right. So I stood a little straighter, held my head high, and knocked three times. When he opened the door, I could tell he was shocked to see me there.
"Sam?" he said.
"Yep," I said, smiling a little, "Happy birthday, dorkwad." I walked inside as he shut the door.
"That it is, Puckett," he said with a chuckle, "That it is." We walked over to his couch and sat down. Once we were settled in, he began to speak. "No offense Sam, but why are you here? I mean, it's not often you grace me with an unexpected visit."
I looked down as he said that, because even though I wanted to just say 'happy birthday' again and leave, I knew that there was no turning back. But, hey, I can stall. "I, well… I kinda smelled your bacon. Share?"
"Here," he said, handing me a piece of bacon, which I devoured quickly, "but you wouldn't look this nervous if it was just bacon. What's eatin' you?"
I guess there was no avoiding it. "I like you as more than a friend." I mumbled the last part, hoping that he wouldn't hear it, giving me room for escape. But, his expression wasn't puzzled. In fact, it was slightly amused. He was silent for a while, then started to chuckle. "Are you LAUGHING at me?" I shouted.
"No," he said, still laughing, "You're just so cute when you're nervous."
"Shut up, you're just saying that," I said, blushing and feeling self-conscious.
"But, I'm not. I really like you, Sam," It was his turn to be nervous, "would you be my girlfriend?"
"Fredward, you're such a dork," I said. He looked down. "But you're my dork."
As we were about to hug, we heard a girly shriek and a defeated whine. Suddenly, Carly and Spencer burst into the apartment. "Ha, I won!" Carly was shouting, "Pay up, Spence."
"But, Carly," Spencer whined, "I don't have any money." He then turned to Freddie and I. "Why couldn't you guys have waited until Monday?"
"Sorry, Spence, but you've still gotta pay Carly," I said.
"This is the best birthday I could ever have," Freddie said, smiling. And with that, Carly stepped in front of us. "I now pronounce you, demon and nerd."
