Glorfindel stared longingly at the crystal across his side of the table. Erestor took inventory of his small collection and the Vanya's eyes drifted down to his own, before going back to the one he had his eyes on before.
As a reward for their hard work Elrond gave them a pile of gems and precious stones to go through; each taking what they wanted. The elven lords took turns on their choice of gems. Unsurprisingly, Erestor took every white gem and rock to give to Thranduil, while Glorfindel randomly grabbed whatever fancied him. Much to his annoyance he failed grabbing the one white gem he did want, and he wanted it badly.
Erestor was minding his own business, inspecting the quality of each piece in his stash.
Glorfindel cleared his throat. "Would you happen to relinquish your claim to this?" He pointed to the gem he wanted.
Erestor looked to the elf with a raised brow before glancing to the crystal. "No, I am not."
Glorfindel frowned with disappointment. Then an idea struck. "What would you like from my stash that would be equal in value?"
Erestor appeared interested, resting his chin in his hand. "Name your price."
Glorfindel pushed out a couple rubies and emeralds to the center of the table.
Erestor placed a pathetically small looking crystal to the center too: setting the value of what Glorfindel presented.
The Vanya stared in disbelief at the odds, glancing back to Erestor who appeared strangely smug. Glorfindel grit his teeth and pushed out some sapphires to the pile.
Erestor replaced the small gem with a slightly bigger one.
"You are kidding me, right?" The blonde asked.
"Maybe."
Glorfindel pushed out some opals.
Erestor repeated the process of replacing the old gem with a new one.
Before long Glorfindel grew frantic as sweat began to form on his brow, putting on a face of grim determination while Erestor watched in silent amusement. Glorfindel pushed more stones and crystals out of varying values, although at one-point Erestor pulled out one of the cheaper white-crystals from the beginning of this stupidity, which made Glorfindel exclaim "What!?" in response.
Glorfindel laid face first in the table as he pushed more rubies out.
When he looked up, lo: the white crystal he wanted so badly sat at the center of the table.
Glorfindel made a noise of relief and joy as he reached a hand out to grab it, then he realized something.
One: Erestor was chuckling softly, and two: Glorfindel's entire stash pile was on Erestor's side of the table, all for that one crystal.
The Vanya deadpanned and relinquished his hold. "On second thought, I do not need it that badly."
Erestor grinned widely and gave the Vanya his shinies back, as the trade was called off.
