Note: This is just a weird, silly idea that I got last time I was watching The Two Towers and I couldn't resist.

Disclaimer: I don't own anything, exept the idea of course.

Eowyn was trying her best to keep everyone's spirits up during their long journey to Helms Deep. She was having an amusing conversation with Gimli the dwarf, who she thought to have a very good sense of humor. The elf, Legolas, who was riding somewhere not far behind them, usually did also, but he had been very quiet for the past half hour or so. Eowyn had heard in tales and rumors of the strange sleeping habbits of elves, and that they could actually rest and dream, while still in a semi-concious state of mind. She suspected that he was doing this now, judging by the distant look in his eye and that he hadn't moved an inch, or said anything for quite some time. People just didn't sit that still for that long.

Suddenly, Eowyn thought of a question that her curiosity couldn't stop her from asking.

"Gimli, I myself have never seen, nor heard of a female dwarf." She stated.

"It's true you don't see many dwarf women, as they are often mistaken for dwarf men." Gimli replied conversationally. Eowyn resisted the urge to laugh when she turned and saw Aragorn mouth, It's the beards. She jokingly placed a finger to her lips.

"In fact, some believe that there are no dwarf women, and that dwarves just spring out of holes in the ground! Which is of course ridiculous." He added.

Then Eowyn got another thought, which she thought would be hilarious, at least to the dwarf anyway. She looked behind at Legolas cautiously. Yep, still asleep. She leaned closer to the dwarf and spoke in a soft voice.

" You know, I wonder why you never see any elvish men?" She said, nodding discretely towards the sleeping elf behind them.

Before Aragorn could do anything Gimli burst out laughing, but the hilarity didn't last long. Legolas jolted awake suddenly, startling his horse, Arod and causing him to rear up unexpectedly, kicking the horse in front of him. Gimli was roughly whisked away on the back of the bewildered animal and, due to his lack of experience as a rider, went flying off and landed on the ground with a thud. Eowyn rushed over to help the disgruntled dwarf. She was hardly concerned for his well being, for he wasn't showing signs of injury, but also was more than happy to seize the opportunity to gain some distance between herself and the unamused elf. She mentally rebuked herself for speaking her thoughts aloud, but still had to resist the urge to laugh. How could she have overlooked the keen hearing of the elves? Apparently even asleep, they were still aware of their surroundings. An uncontrollable chuckle escaped her lips as she looked over her shoulder at Aragorn, who, it seemed, had also succumbed to his own amusement.

As she stared into his smiling eyes, everything else seemed to fade around him, even the steady glare of the distainfull elf.
