I was in linguistics class one day, and the idea just struck me -- to write a songfic set to Van Morrison's song "Brown-Eyed Girl," which I just love even though I'm not brown-eyed! Wrote it just for the heck of it. Feedback appreciated! (Written in Sept. '05)
"Red-Eyed Girl"
Written by Amanda Stair
Set to the tune of "Brown-Eyed Girl" by Van Morrison
Hey, where did you go
Nights when the raids came?
Down in the quake fault
Playin' some war games
Squealin' and a-screamin' ("Nene!")
Fightin' and a-cursin'
In the late-night battle with
A Boomer comin' for you
My red-eyed girl
You, my red-eyed girl
What the hell happened?
You're movin' so slow
Goin' to your trailer
With bruises from head to toe
Shufflin' through the dirt, smirkin'
Hidin' behind your fav'rite guitar
Singin' and a-cronin' ("Hey hey!")
Alone with the stray dogs and you
My red-eyed girl
You, my red-eyed girl
Do you remember when you used to sing?
Ko-n-ya wa ha-ri-keen a-na-ta ni ha-ri-keen
Ko-n-ya wa ha-ri-keen kan-ji-te ha-ri-keen
Ha-ri-keen
So hardened is your heart
Havin' grown up on your own
Riskin' losin' your life every day
A life you've always known
You're always goin' back there, Lord
Sometimes I can't help wonderin' about
Kickin' a Combat Boomer's ass
Behind the Tokyo Dome with you
My red-eyed girl
You, my red-eyed girl
Do you remember when you used to sing?
Ko-n-ya wa ha-ri-keen a-na-ta ni ha-ri-keen
Ko-n-ya wa ha-ri-keen kan-ji-te ha-ri-keen
