Hey, ya'll,

This is a one-shot based on an incredible TFW Edit by Instagram user angelsimpala- definitely check them out, their work is amazing. So much talent. A Tale Of Three Brothers is taken from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows by J.K. Rowling. I own nothing besides the changes to the original work.

Three brothers, traveling along a lonely, winding road at twilight reached a deep treacherous river where anyone who attempted to swim or wade would drown. Learned in the arts of hunting the creatures of the night, the brothers formed a bridge and proceeded to cross.

Halfway across the bridge, a hooded figure stood before them. The figure was the enraged spirit of Death, cheated of due. Death cunningly pretended to congratulate them and proceeded to award them with gifts of their own choosing.

The eldest brother, a loyal soldier, asked for the power to protect his family. Death granted his wish by pulling from another world, the powers of a long-gone Archangel. The second brother, an angel fallen, wished to see how much farther Death would go, and asked for the power to revive those he meant to claim. Death granted his wish by creating a Healing Cordial from the waters of the raging river. The third and youngest brother, who was the most humble and wise and broken of them all, did not trust Death and asked for something to enable him to go forth without Death being able to follow; to allow him to watch his brothers from afar. A reluctant Death, most unwillingly, handed over his own Invisibility Cloak.

The three brothers took their prizes and went their separate ways.

The eldest brother traveled to an old church where an angel who had wronged him resided. He sought him out and fought using the power of the Archangel, and easily killed the latter.

Leaving his enemy dead upon the floor, the eldest brother appeared in Heaven and spent the night there. Taken by the lust and thrill of the powers, the eldest brother boasted of the Archangel's power gifted to him by Death and his own invincibility.

That very night, Death transfigured to a vengeful angel. The unknown Seraph crept to the room where the eldest brother worked, drunk on the spilled blood of humanity. The Seraph slit the eldest brother's throat, a slash of a glinting knife, for good measure and returned the power to the other world.

The second brother returned to roaming the Earth in search for his father. He stopped in many places and soon gave up upon the quest to find who was missing, preferring instead that during his travels, to heal as many of humanity as he came upon. Yet, although his satisfaction and happiness grew with every soul fixed, the Cordial drained him. The faces of those he had failed to save in the past, that he could have saved now, weighed down deeply and heavily on his soul. Finally, the second brother, driven mad with grief and sorrow and pain of ghosts past, died at the hand of his own angel blade. That was when Death took the second brother as his own.

Death searched for the youngest brother as years past but never succeeded. It was only when the third brother reached a great age, burdened with the weight of his choices and losses; he took off the Cloak of Invisibility and gave it to his son. Greeting Death as an old friend, they departed this life as equals.
