The Engagement – Chapter one
A few days before Nat's arrival…
No one's POV
Mrs. Meg and Daisy were sitting alone one evening talking about how happy they were that Alice had accepted Demi's proposal. Mrs. Meg was just saying how lovely a girl Alice is and daisy was just thinking how lucky Demi is for he gets to marry the one he loves. If anyone saw Daisy that evening they could have never guessed how much she was hurting. She was truly happy for her brother but she knew she could never have that because she was not allowed to be with the one she loved. She loved Nat with all her heart and being apart did not help her, it only made her love him more. She also knew without a doubt that he loved her as well. Her mother knows all of this but still forbids her daughter from ever being more than friends with Nat. but tonight was different, even though Daisy didn't know it yet.
Mrs. Meg had been observing things lately. She had heard how successful Nat had become but that was not what she had been observing. She wanted to be sure that they truly loved each other and that it was not just a childish infatuation. She had found her answer. She saw how much Daisy was trying to please her but at the same time getting hurt because of it. That was why she started to talk about Demi's engagement, to bring up the topic of Nat. And she got her chance.
"I wish I could marry the one I loved" whispered Daisy, mostly to herself. But her mother had heard so she said "Daisy dear, I wanted to talk to you about that." Daisy looked up, curious about what her mother wanted to say. "Daisy, I know that you love Nat and I know that I have not been very reasonable, keeping you away from him. The truth is I wanted to be sure that you truly loved him and he truly loved you and that if he proposed it would not be based on a childish obsession. But now I see that you really do love each other so if you are sure about this then you have my permission to be with him." Mrs. Meg smiled. Daisy was shocked beyond words. "Do you really mean it Mother?" "Yes dear, go and be happy like your brother." Daisy embraced her mother and started sobbing in her arms. They were not tears of sorrow though; they were tears of joy.
