Alex stared down at the pregnancy test in her hand. She was frozen; speechless. It read positive. Was it okay to be excited about this? Having a child was never something she planned. Her entire life has always been chaos and dangerous, but it's been two years since Nikita and the rest of them had defeated Amanda. She's been with Sam ever since; they were engaged, even.
Sam would always make jokes about living a "white-picket-fence" life, but they never had a serious conversation about having kids. The closest thing they had to a home was their safe house in Paris, with Alex still traveling and fighting against human trafficking. Truth is, they both knew neither one of them was ever destined to live normal lives.
Alex sent a text to Nikita. "911. Meet me at my place."
No one ever lost touch and Nikita and Michael were spending a few months in Paris before going back to their beach house.
Nikita showed up at her door not even 10 minutes later in a panic. "What's going on? Is everything okay?" she asked before she was even in the door.
"Everything's fine. I mean, I think it is… I don't know," Alex told her. She sat down on a chair in the living space, burying her head in her hands.
Nikita kneeled down in front of her and placed her hands on Alex's knees. "Hey. What's going on?"
Alex looked up at Nikita and took a deep breathe. "I'm pregnant."
A huge smile spread across Nikita's face. "What?! You are?!" she pulled Alex into a hug, causing Alex to relax a little.
"So it's a good thing?" Alex questioned.
"Are you kidding? It's a great thing! Why wouldn't it be?"
"I'm just worried that it's not exactly the best environment to raise a kid. I'm constantly making enemies with what I do, Sam and I are traveling all the time, I don't even know if he wants kids, and -"
"Wait. You haven't told Sam yet?" Nikita interrupted.
"I just needed to know it was okay to be happy about it before I told him," she confessed.
"Alex, you are going to be great parents. Sam is so in love with you, he's going to be ecstatic."
The sound of a door opening stopped their conversation as Sam walked in, grocery bags in hand.
"Hey, Nikita. What are you doing here?" he asked.
"I was just leaving, actually," she said, looking at Alex, who mouthed her a thank you. Nikita gave her a wink and whispered, "Call me." She put her hand on Sam's shoulder before walking out the door.
Sam sat the bags down on the kitchen counter as Alex walked over. They both starting unloading everything out of the bags in silence. Sam kept glancing over at Alex, noticing something wasn't right. He stopped what he was doing and walked closer to her.
"Hey," he started, putting her hands in his. "What's wrong?"
She looked up at him, making eye contact for the first time since he walked in. "I'm pregnant," she blurted out, worry in her eyes.
Sam stared back at her, speechless for a moment. It was only about five seconds, but to Alex it felt like an eternity as she waited for his reaction. Then his face lit up and he began stuttering, questioning if she was serious. Her face mirrored his, lighting up. Her eyes filled up as he pulled her in for a hug, and they stood there in each other's arms for a few moments before he pulled away to kiss her, tears threatening to spill out of his own eyes. He held her hands in his face and wiped the tears the fell on her cheeks with his thumbs. He kissed her forehead and pulled in her for a hug once more. Alex rested her head on his chest, never having felt so content in her life.
