Happiness

In her living room, Benedika Johanssen sat on her couch, the television blaring meaningless noise, her coffee table littered with candy bar wrappers.

She licked her lips, the stains of recently consumed chocolate giving her taste buds the last hints of the feast she had just enjoyed the hour before.

Under the influence of the joy that only her favorite confectionary treat could bring, she didn't find her mind betraying her with dark thoughts.

Benedika hadn't had a very pleasant childhood, then again not many fat girls ever did.

The other girls had been led by that bitch Linda in making her time in school a living hell.

Home wasn't safe either, no father, a mother that constantly cursed her existence, and her mother's various boyfriends weren't much better.

Not even Tod, who had been so kind to her, in the beginning at least.

The mental fog began to break, Benedika moaned in old terror, her hands flying through the mess on the coffee table, desperately searching for salvation.

His voice echoed in her mind, "Come're little dumpling, I've got sumthin that'll make ya happy..."

She could still hear his zipper coming down, feel his hand on the back of her head...

Her hands found purchase on a forgotten chocolate bar and it's mere presence made it all go away.

Benedika unwrapped it feverishly and crammed it in her mouth, chewing quickly while throwing the wrapper on the coffee table.

The blessed relief filled her bloated body, giving testament to her endless quest for momentary joy.

Being a fat diabetic in a dirty muumuu was a small price to pay for her happiness, after all at least chocolate didn't judge her for any of it.

But she needed to go to the store, she was out of damn chocolate bars.
