He looked out the window and stared at the blonde, curls framing her face. Her eyes shone as she walked away from her friends and neared the house. She reached for the door knob and walked in.
He got off the window seat and walked over to her, sitting on the couch. "Hey, Lizzie."
"Hey Matt," she replied, sitting next to him with a smile.
They never told, they never said it out loud, but they were good friends. Great friends, in fact. The pair might've acted like jerks to each other, but that was usually with their parents or their friends around. No one knew, and they wanted to keep it that way.
'Why?', you may ask. 'Why not be good friends in front of everyone too?' That is a question they've asked themselves many times, but never found an answer. They tried being friends with everyone else around, but it never worked. "Instinct, I guess," was their reason to why.
For Matt, he realised that Lizzie was a great friend to talk to - especially on girls. And he loved the fact that Gordo was so much like a big brother, playing games of Hackeybasket with, looking through - 'pictures of a cheesehouse,' recalled Matt with a laugh. And for Lizzie, she realised that he was a great listener and that Melina had a brilliant fashion taste.
"What's new?" she asked.
"Nothing, really. I got detention for putting chewing gum in Henry's hair. You know," he added, looking at the confused Lizzie, "the guy who sits in front of me?"
"Oh, yeah, him."
"So how was first day of school?"
After some thought - "Hm, pretty good actually. Kate actually stood up to Claire -" Matt snorted, "-yeah, yeah, it was great. And I got a huge pile of homework."
"And did anyone discuss a certain kiss with a certain someone?"
Lizzie gasped. "You know about that??"
"Lizzie, Lizzie, everyone knows that," he said with a grin.
"How?!!?"
Matt smiled sheepishly. "...from Miranda."
"Miranda?!?! Urgh, I am so gonna kill her!!"
"No, no, don't, she gives great girl advice."
"Ah, yes, I remember 'I-fell-in-love-with-Miranda-but-not-anymore'."
Matt had told her what had happened the night Lizzie got fired from Digital Bean. That really lightened her up.
"Yeah, well, okay, so what else do you know?" she continued.
"I remember you told me you like Gordo,"
"You do? Oh, yeah, you do!" she remembered telling him the night of the photo taken. "So what do you think I should do?"
"Well since both you guys like each other -"
"-what?!?"
He shrugged. "Didn't he tell you?"
"Tell me what?!"
"That he likes you!"
"No he didn't!" Lizzie stood up from the couch.
"Well, he told me he did..." he thought for some time. "...no, he didn't," he blushed. "I'm not supposed to tell."
Lizzie bent down and stared at her brother. "I'm happy you did tell," she said, and hugged him.
Matt leaned back. "Okay, Zee, tell me what I can do about Melina."
She stood up and sat next to him again.
"I say you two should wait, maybe for about three years, till you tell her."
"...I guess." He got up as the doorbell rang. "Thanks Lizzi - hi, Mum," he finished.
Lizzie got up quickly. "Mum, he's not letting me watch the TV!!"
The mask was back on again, and the whole world would never know the closeness the siblings shared.
