There are way too little Noragami fics... I'll just add one more!
Yato's hand shot up to the back of his neck. When his fingers touched it, the pain spread to his fingertips. A dark bruise was forming.
'What did he do this time?,' Yato wondered. As he set out to find his troublesome teen shinki, he felt another stab of pain. How troublesome.
A few minutes later, Yato found Yukine sitting on the swings in an abandoned playground. He was glaring sullenly at the ground in front of him. His hand were white from where he was crushing the swings chains. Yukine looked up when Yato's shadow fell over him. Yato could now see faint tear marks and reddened cheeks that were caused by incessant rubbing.
Yukine's eyes immediately saw the god's dark blight on his hands and looked away.
"Sorry," he muttered.
Yato continued staring at Yukine in silence. Then, he said and asked, "It was that little girlfriend of yours, wasn't it? I told you it was a bad idea."
Suddenly, Yukine grew angry. "You're right, okay? Are you happy?" He gripped the chains harder and didn't even flinch when his nails cut into his skin and caused blood to slowly drip out.
"I'm supposed to talk with you, right? So, what happened? You're in an even worse mood than the last time you two fought." Yato dragged his hand through his hair. He really wasn't cut out for this emotional stuff. He should just leave this off to Hiyori.
"Akiya broke up with me. She said I wasn't good enough for her. She left me for one of those rich idiots." Yato just waited, knowing more was going to come. "She said she never loved me. My only worth was that I was a blessed vessel. I got really angry and jealous. Sorry."
"Eh? Do I hear someone being insecure?" Yato teased, trying to lighten the mood. Yukine took the bait, grateful for the escape.
"The only insecure one here is you, you stinky so-called god in a tracksuit!"
Yato cringed, looking depressed for a moment. He crouched down and started drawing circles in the dirt using a stick, muttering incomprehensible words. A gloomy atmosphere surrounded him.
"Idiot..."Yukine muttered and scowled.
Suddenly, Yato stood up again and looked down at Yukine. He patted Yukine's hair like a father to his son.
"Don't worry about it. If you really were just a blessed vessel, we wouldn't have gotten to where we are today. You're loyal, smart, and stubborn. You are also my guide. Thank you for leading me towards my goals of my a God of Fortune." Yato smiled and retracted his hand.
Yato and Yukine stood there for a moment, just basking in the warm of their bond. Then, Yukine stiffened.
"Ow," Yukine looked at the hand Yato used to pat his head. The purple had spread even further. "Yato! You blighted me!"
"Eh?" Yato looked down at his hand and then back up at Yukine. Yukine's face was set in an expression of deep irritation. Yato chose to turn around and run away.
"It was your fault to begin with. Don't blame it on meeeee!"
Yukine jumped off the swing and started chasing the god. Inwardly, he smiled.
'Thank you.'
That was short, but turned out way better than I thought it would.
