Author's Note: It was just brought to my attention by bjjones that tobywhitewolf has a story by the same title posted on her livejournal. Any similarities between the two stories is a coincidence. It is simply a matter of two great minds thinking alike.

Horatio looked up from his computer and glanced at the clock. It was after 11:30 at night. He stretched. He'd been working for several hours and was getting stiff. He wandered into the bedroom to get ready for bed expecting to find Tim already asleep. Instead he found an empty bed.

One side of his mouth quirked up. He was pretty sure that he knew where he'd find his lover at this hour if he wasn't in bed. He padded down the stairs and into the living room. The room was dark except for the soft glow of a table lamp at one end of the sofa. He walk quietly over to the sofa's sleeping occupant.

One of the first things he'd learned about Tim Speedle when they had moved in together was that the younger man loved to read. He seldom watched TV except for the news. He preferred to curl up with a good book, that is when he wasn't curled up with good redhead. He frequently fell asleep on the sofa or in the recliner chair and Horatio would have to wake him and bring him to bed.

Horatio raked his eyes up Tim's sleeping form. He always looked so peaceful when he slept and so much younger. The lines around his eyes and mouth were softened and the perpetual crease in his forehead was gone. Horatio sighed quietly. The work that they did every day, he thought, had aged them both.

Tim lay on his back on the sofa. The book he'd been reading was resting on his chest and there was a small orange cat curled into a ball on his stomach. In the quiet room Horatio could hear Cloe purring in her sleep. He almost didn't want to disturb them but he knew if he didn't that Tim would be complaining of a sore back in the morning.

He gingerly lifted the book off of Tim's chest. He placed his favorite book mark, the one that said, "Scientists do it experimentally," into the book to mark his place then sat the book on the coffee table. He reached down and gently stroked Cloe's back. Her head shot up and she glared at him for a moment before rubbing her head on his hand.

"Come on Cloe," he said quietly as he prodded the cat. "It's time for daddy to go to bed."

The cat reluctantly hopped off of Tim and on to the floor then stretched. She looked up at Horatio and meowed. He was certain that she merely tolerated him to keep Tim happy. She was definitely Tim's cat.

Horatio looked down at his sleeping lover. There was only one way to wake him up when he fell asleep on the couch. He leaned down and brushed his lips over Tim's. He felt Tim sigh and saw his eyes flutter open. A smile spread across his face and he reached up and pulled Horatio down on top of him on the couch.

"Hey," Horatio protested. "I was supposed to be taking you back to bed."

Tim chuckled. "That sounds like a plan," he said.

Horatio stood and pulled Tim into his arms. Their lips met and he knew that they wouldn't be getting much sleep any time soon.
