I wrap my arms around his lithe figure and pull him toward me. The guards had just dumped him unceremoniously in our joint room just a few seconds ago. Parts of his yellow fur had been singed off and new cuts and scrapes decorated his body, these were no doubt caused by the most recent of tests. Tears streamed out of his vibrant, green eyes partially from his physical pain, partially from whatever psychological torture the sick bastards inflicted upon him. Then again we weren't 'people' to them just facsimiles, copies, and pawns to be toyed with and thrown away when we broke. All in their quest to create the perfect soldier. It's hard to say how many clones have come before us and how many will come after. I've heard the guards talking about the world outside. Places, people, and sports, fine food: things we will never see, touch, feel, smell, or taste. The most chilling thing by far, however, are their conversations about us. From the conversations I've heard over the past few days I've come to the conclusion that our time in this world is quickly coming to an end. I can't tell him. It would be too cruel of me to tell him, to take away what little hope he has left, the hope that one day everything will be ok and it won't hurt anymore. Instead I'll keep him nestled in my arms, his bright fur in such contrast to my dark gray, and whisper sweet lies into his ear. I hold him and tell him about the sky and its bright blue, about the cities with their tall buildings that scrape the sky. I tell him about the planets, the sun, and the stars. Things we will never see in our captivity. "I love you Wolf," he says drifting off to sleep. Though our time together is short I shall treasure every moment of it. He can't hear me in the depths of his sleep but I say it anyway, "I love you Fox."
